Hi there, A very general question, but I'm a newbie there I have read many "specialized" posts but I think I'm missing the "big picture". So what are the pros & cons of Paid & Free directory ? For instance there are many directories out there, where you have to pay for having a link.. but how can I estimate the potential traffic they have ? Regards, Yannick
I would (and always do) submit to a combonation of both. The problem with free directories, especially the older welll established ones is that it can take weeks or even months to get approved. One of my favourite value tricks is to find newly established directories that are offering discounts on featured links because those provide the best long-term value.
you can read this article for help - http://www.authoritydirectory.com/articles/Different-Types-of-Directories-15.html
I would recommend a mixture as well... get the long term ones in the mix first and then start to pay for the immediate ones if you need to.
Depends on your site as well, if your site have potential and it can earn for you, so you must spend on it at paid directories for better search placement and traffic. If its non-profit sites not many will go with paid directories, so depends on type of your site as well.
I have free directores. If you want to earn money you can choose paid ones. But if you like the site index project, you can give this for free. Also is you want to add paid directories, yes it is easy but google do not like link buying/selling. Also if you have a good site you can be approved (for exp i will approve in 1 days time)
Well, the only paid submission I would do is to yahoo. Otherwise I would use a mix of free high pr directories (also low level niche directoriies) and social bookmarking
Thanks guys for the answers & info. I guess I will try to identify the most "intersting" ones and submit to them, both free & paid. Swedal, the design of authoritydirectory really rocks !!! Yannick
