Has anyone been successful using paid advertising to get traffic to your website? If so what company did you use?

it all depends on your keywords and the sites you appear in and ofcourse the ads company you work with. the best solution is to contact few of them and get a price quotes.

Yes, it works. If you want good traffic on a consistent basis, advertising is the only way to do it.

But you first have to know how to do it, and stay away from the bullshit "10,000 visitors for $45"!

I know of reputable services, but I do not use them. I do it myself.

Just do your homework, and go slow.

When you want to have some actions on site then use adwords, if you want to banner campaigns then buy links and ads for your own on boards

In all the paid adverting PPC is the most effective but can be costly and you might need a big budget to get started.

I think paid advertising will work but for not on a long basis, you may get some good traffic for 1-2 months by spending some thousand dollars but for a long term basis I suppose it will not work , You may use it for sometime so that your site rank will improve and when you get starting traffic consistently then you may drop that plan and start some other ways like social networking , blogging and bookmarking .

Adwords is good, but for someone who has had no experience in paid advertising it can also be a way to burn loads of money with out seeing results.

Adwords isn't your only option when it comes to PPC, I'd advise you to check out adbrite as well. Their network isn't as big as Google but they are cheaper and I've had some good results with them.

Another option (depending on your product/website) would be ezine advertising, these sites have numerous lists of newsletter subscribes that they can send your solo email or ad to which can also result in quite a few visitors.

Bottom line is yes I have used payed methods and have had good results just be careful and start small, when I first stared using adwords I waisted a couple hundred dollars before I stopped and rethinked my approach.
