I paid this month to be included in the yahoo directory to try and help my google listings. I was on the first page for yahoo search results but after I was included a week later I show up on page 11. Anyone know whats going on my site description is different but that shouldn't drop me so much should it?

I don`t think it has anything to do with including in Yahoo directory.....I think changing the site description could hurt a little bit...but not so much as it did to you

Yahoo itself does rely with on-page factor such as keyword density more than links. The theory about link from Yahoo Directory could help your site in Yahoo is still a myth until now, but of course it could help your site in Google. Please be noted - when your site has being listed in Yahoo, your listing in Yahoo search results would be changed according the info from your listing in Yahoo Directory. Title and description text also changed, and as I already told you Yahoo rely too much on on-page factor, See?

I think you should check your listing in Yahoo search result to see if it has changed compared to the old one before it got listed in Yahoo Directory. Contact Yahoo staff in need of change some of your listing appearance.

I wouldn't mind too much about yahoo. Google is the search engine you are looking to rank for in order to get organic traffic.

Yeah I think you are right. I think the reason I dropped it is because my description is being pulled from the directory and is way vague. Is there any way I can stop it from getting pulled from the directory and use my original one?

You are right. I tried everything to get traffic from Yahoo but nothing worked. Only search engine giving me traffic is Google.

Having a Yahoo directory link is definitely a great idea since your website's ranks on Google would more than probably rise. The thing about Yahoo could be a temporary issue.

as OP I got listed in Yahoo about 6 months ago and move to page 3 from page 8 in a week but after one month I'm on page 10-20 and it cannot even cache my pages properly as it still shows www.mydomain.com/index.html even though I don't have index.html but use index.php with redirect.
But the good thing about Yahoo Directory is that it's a reputable directory and I am much higher in google now and YD really helped. $299 - definitely worth it. just don't understand why yahoo struggle with caching my pages, whereas I get great results in google and bing. Of course it's not only yahoo directory but it surely helped and it's definitely worth it if you're serious about your website.

I bet that this was just an abnormality. You probably did nothing wrong, but other mitigating circumstances changed.

it can be because of changes in data center or you did some changes in meta tag

It's unrelated, but paying $299 for Y director is a waste of $ IMO
