    "If" I did directory submissions I would go with free; since Google has been penalizing many paid directories for selling paid text links. All submissions should be done manually.

    I prefer to submit my site in a free one. I submit it using manual method. Using software to submit your site is not advisable and maybe your site will ended up to wrong category.

    If you are caught with paid links, Google says that hi's penalizing the website. AFAIK.

    Yea , Why Need to Pay for Directories Submission.

    Directorycritic and many Resources are very Helpful for all the lists.

    also Google is Not Happy with some Paid Directories so why need to go in wrong way.

    Definitely either google do penalty or not but why to sumit in paid directories when there are free directories. Secondly instead of wasting money in paid you can invest it for other seo purpose like google adwords.

    Finally instead of using software for submission in free directory why not do it manually because software is human and manual submission is the best method becasue all the directories does not have the same structure and step for submission.

    I'd prefer free directory submission rather than paid directories. Aside from being free, web directories specializes in linking and categorizing web sites, which is good for google ranking. For me, doing free submissions helps better than paying for them. =)
