I am starting to set up a lot of niche directories. What do you prefer a free directory or paid? Also do you thinks it better to start as free and then as PageRank grows change it over to a paid? Please post your experiences and opinions.

Its better to start off paid if thats what you intend to do in the near future anyway.

I think it's best you don't start with 'a lot' of directories.

Try just managing ONE and keeping it quality oriented and you'll soon discover the ideology of being able to manage many is just a myth.

i thinks biding directory (Paid Directory) is good options to earn money.
on starting stage you can start Lowest bid $0.50 so any body can afforded it to spent money and make it with some high quality design and good looking directory so visitor like to spent money.
when ever it's grow and page rank comes you can increased your rate.

I agree with an0n. Concentrate on 1 or 2 good directories.

You will probably have to start with free or your directory will be empty for a long time, unless you add some quality sites yourself.

For starters one directory is also ok.....you need to create good categories which may be different from others in keywords which people usually use.......add few quality listings yourself in each category and keep listing free in starting

If you are starting many directories than start paid one. Free directories requires many effort of link review coz there are lots of submissions every day and you will have to review it in the promised time
