Flood this Google stockmarket board with your anger... Google stock will be worth a lot less by morning.
    http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/mb/goog

Ironic that the busiest Google stock market board is run by Yahoo.
Hey it could also crash the Nasqaq and the economy :)
    It's a long way down from $471/share

(anyone going to make this post a sticky?)

Any idea how would Google distinguish paid from non-paid links when considering a devaluation if that were true?...

I have absolutley no idea

    for example purposes only....

I am doing a buy one get one free so I don't know how they will figure out which is the free one :D

See also... Sponsor my bike ride and get a free link on my site. :)

Also I am selling links on sites, high page rank, but you don't find out the url's until you have paid, .... (I wonder if Google will pay for links in order to find out which ones)

how about my sig links of course, which are purchased, also all the sponsors of the DP servers...

There is probably more... It's all gone pear-shaped!

I think they'll force you to put a no follows attritube. It's on matts cull blog I think.
There's a difference between links for Page rank (search engine position), and links for Traffic..

google basically wants to monopolozie the whole link paying industry.

Yeh, we know that much already, but how can they possibly police it?

Like I said,... I can do a buy one get one free on another site, police that! :D

They could index URLs on sites like text-link-ads to get an idea of who is buying links. Also look at who gets PR7 links etc for short periods.

DO NO HARM, what a pile of Crap....sorry for the term but hey !!

OK we know that black hat techniques are used for page rank and there are those that use paid for links for PR only....But surely thats not a majority...I would suspect its the bigger more prolific sites doing this.......

If i wanted to pay for my site to be advertised somewhere that has good traffic and popularity, what the heck is wrong with that...nothing, but will Google be able to tell if it was paid for to gain PR.

Google needs to look more closely at its own lackings in the algorithm than to penalise the webmasters that gave Google its success today.

It would never happen quickly but if Google now think that they own the net then they should be boycotted for this.......anyone know what MSN and Yahoo, amongst others are saying ?

As discussed with a good friend, Google could be signing its own death warrant here.

I also think that Matt Cutts blog should be pulled because he has also caused a huge amount of ADDED mistrust in Google by not answering questions put to him as if he is on a gagging order.

Perhaps, in a limited way to start with, webmasters should start paying credance to the other Search Engines and lets try to find a better alternative to Adsense, if it excists because i really dont think that Google are playing fair or not doing any harm

From what i've read and understand, Google text matching algorithm will be able to distinguish between the "paid links" and organic links. They are asking users to report "paid links website" through Google Webmaster and they'll use that to penalise/devalue all links from those sites.

Since Google goal is to provide users with the most accurate search, they want to penalise all sites trying to tamper with the SERPs by any means and that include "paid link" because of the preference it gives to sites using them. Just my opinion btw :)

Google says there's nothing wrong with buying links, but they should be nofollowed. You can buy a link for traffic, but you shouldn't use it to try and boost SERPs, because a bought link is no representation of popularity, which is an important factor in ranking.

Sounds fair play to me, especially if it makes SERPs better [IMG]

How is that fair? It basically forces authors of small websites to use Adsense rather than get our own revenue... this is outrageous!

Everyone knows if we tell our clients that links will be rel=nofollow then no one will want to buy any links from us.

If that was the case, it wouldn't be great news for TLA and other similar sites, would it?

This is just pure hypocrisy... Google promote the use of AdWords yet frown upon the principle of it. Sounds like they're trying to make more money then improve our search results.

So, what's next - no linking to friends? Because, of course, that's no indication of quality or relevancy. Webmasters will be required to list their friends with Google, and will be asked to report on other webmasters' linking to their friends to influence ranking. Relatives too, of course - they'll want a complete list of all living relatives and their respective online doings.
