Is't a dangerous measure that Google to ban websites who buy and sell links ?

What if somebody want to hurt you or want to distroy your pagerank and buy some links in the name of your site to distroy it and after will report your website to Google ? i think at the competition who wants to see you down

Google after sites that sell links (dropping their PR), so there's no way you can hurt your competitors simply by buying links.

Banning would be to harsh a thing to do and more than half the blogging world will get banned ?? Google will feel lonely then :)

I doubt this is possible - I got 10-20 one way adult links to one of my travel sites/guess created by competitors/ to drop my ranking. And not only i didn't get banned, but my traffic continues to grow with some 50% each month. No one can control the other webmasters, thats why google is after these selling links and not that much after the ones buying/receiving them.

Google never hurts link buyers since Google can not prove who really buys links. Google can only hurt or reduce Pr of link sellers.

Well, the thing is that it is really hard to find out what to consider to be a 'paid link'. May be I just interlinked my bulk of sites? :)

So I do not think that it will ever be possible for Google to ban web-sites that rely on paid links.
