Paid link accountability

If you pay for links and link devlopment, what do you do about links vanishing before they are due to exactly.

I've purchased a number of links from people on DP - 50%, great, 25% utter garbage and 25% don't even exist anymore, it's a real lottery!

If you are spending big on link devlopment, this can't be acceptable. Do you tend to find someone you trust and stick with them, take the losses, do it yourself etc?

Money and toilet springs to mind... :(

I email or PM people when my link is missing. I check all sites that I advertise on every few days using my link checker software.

Sometimes it seems like a crap shoot at best. It's no guarantee, but I'll usually check the domain name registration to see if it expires before my ad term is up. It gives me no indication of their hosting arrangement, but I feel a bit better buying ads on sites whose domain name isn't set to expire in a couple of months.

I'll also check some of the threads started by the person I'm thinking of buying an ad or service from to see what type of replies they've received.

Seems like it is necessary to monitor some sites regularly, while others I don't worry too much about. You can get a prety good feel for it after awhile.
