Paid Directory Submission! Have You? Would You Again?

I am excluding yahoo directory for the moment. Have you paid to get included into a specific directory? I am talking about a one time fee of $40 or less. I was looking at a list of the best paid directories and am wondering if anyone here has done that and whether or not you think it was worth it.

I have paid for inclusion in some directories and yes it is worth it. Paid directories typically offer better link value then free directories.

i did. and then i bought the directory. sounds sort of like an electric shaver commercial, no? i would say it's a great way to promote your site.

I have, I do, and I will continue to pay for listings I deem to suit my needs. As a customer of many directories, I know the value of position and what it means to my sites. As an owner of directories, I see far too many great sites fall to the bottom because the site owner won't spend a penny on promotion.

What does any site gain from being at the bottom of any directories link pool? Nothing.

If a directory will bring me traffic or PR, then I have no problem paying for submission. Most I've paid was $50... I think the Yahoo! directory is a rip off.

I've invested low $x,xxx on directory submissions. This includes submissions (mainly premium/featured) to all the top directories (site-sift, alive directory, free web index) as well as hundreds more. Was it worth it? It was a long term investment and I think it will in the long run. I've worked extremely hard on my directory and plan to continue doing so.

Does the huge amount of money that Yahoo demands for directory listing really get you any further up the rankings? They are PR9 !

upon renewal this year i spend £500 on dir submissions for one of my sites and i must say not all fo them are worth it, if your gonna pay to be listed you want to make sure you get the best directories, and if your going for a free/[paid directoty you want to ensure your paid listing will be much more visible than the normal listings.

Be very picky as to which directory you want to pay, check the PR and also check the domain creation date, make sure its aged a little and just for the sake of it check that the expiry date isn't too close.

    my 5 cents

I really don't feel yahoo is a rip of

I have a friend who gets about 1000 visits from yahoo a year, so thats $.30 which is less than he'd pay for AdWords

If yahoo was permenant then I think all webmasters would put up the 299,

Yahoo is smart, google is stupid, they should kick out DMOZ and put up a google directory and charge 299 yr

any way yes you should spend some on paid directories, how much depends on how serious you are about you site, for me low $xxx was enough, make sure the directory owner promotes it well

choose them wisley, don't just rush into it

what directory do I reccomend, www.epitrope.com, you can get a permenant PR 6 link for $10 which is dirt cheap

Purchased many, many directory listings in the past. Yes, it's worth it. A one-time fee of 40 or less seems fair for permanent link on a not-too-crowded page with good PR.
