Im thinking about making an all paid directory, but i dont know what i should do in order to get the PR up high...

How do other paid directories do that? Do they like offer recipricol links and when the pr is high, do they just like erase all sites or something?

Most of the paid directories start out as free ones, either that or the owners have some really high pr sites pointing to them, and get a ton of other backlinks.

It'll be very hard to convince someone to pay to be included in a directory with few backlinks and little to no PR.

Getting the pr high is the same as you would do with a normal website. Get a good number of incoming links, especially from high PR sites which pass good PR. Over the period of time, your PR should also improve.

If the sole purpose of the directory is to get money by giving PR you may have a difficult business plan. What if tomorrow Google decides to drop the PR tool?

With the plethora of free directories plus the major “For fee” ones like Yahoo and Business.com starting a new one in this market to make money would be very difficult.

I have a new paid directory site and it now updated with a PR of 3:

    http://www.3dollarauto.com/

I try to promote it as much as possible and I do not allow junk sites on it :)

Of the hundreds of directories that I have submitted to, it has only happended once where a directory that has erased my listing. That directory was dropped down to my "not recommended directory list".

I have come accross a couple of other directories, that although they had been around for a while, they were starting anew with a clean slate. Part of the ratings for a directory is based on the directory and ownership's integrity. Anyone that deletes listings for their own profit fails that test.

Get your paid directory listed into some other paid directory. That will give you PR fast.

Please note that to place your link on a irrelevant directory can do some damge with the PR calculation.

You can never get banned for the incoming links. But you can get banned for bad neighbourhood outgoing links.

It appears that Google is banning some sites that are obviously gaining links in an un-natural way (e.g. getting way too many, too fast). Many of the sites that have gotten into trouble were PR7 / PR8. Most sites would have to spend a lot in advertising to ever have a problem. The distribution of your links could also cause a problem. A site that buys only PR5-PR7 links would not pass this test. You need quite a few PR1s and PR2s to go with the PR5s and PR6s.

A lot of directories make money just from Adsense so more content = more pages = more earnings.

I run several directories such as www.indexplex.com which are paid I used to run a couple of free ones but the volume of submissions grew too high so I charge for those too now.
