I have a vB forum at http://forums.hostmatrix.org previously it had around 25K pages indexed in Google, over the last 4 weeks pages have disappeared from the index at an alarming rate. Presently pages in URL is just over 15K. The vB install has been modified so each thread has its own specific meta title and description. Does anybody have any ideas what is causing this and how I can remedy the situation? Thanks
Maybe just a fluctuation? I have seen my high at 182k and my lowest for this moment was 170k. Well you and i can do the math. That's a differnce of 12k indexed pages. To be honest i never thought or care about it. Overall each month there is a increase.
I'm used to fluctuations, I've just not seen a steady decrease over 4 weeks before. It's also a high percentage which is a bit of a killer on my Co-op weight.
If you do a search on the standard Google servers, you'll see that the titles and description are dropping off. http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://forums.hostmatrix.org/ In my experience, that means you are being penalised for something. Don't ask me what though
Perhaps the same duplicate content problem ? But I have never seen a VB forum reporting to be affected by duplicate content filter. ( Just a thought )
Hello The duplicate content is the biggest problem this days, maybe also hidden keywords. Did you check? Regards, Ovi
There are no hidden keywords. I hope it's not duplicate content though there is an older forum (IPB) that would have some of the earlier posts as content but no where near all of them.
Must be a fluctuation, although I never heard of one lasting so long. My site has been bouncing up and down. I almost crapped my pants when I saw that I had 900 pages indexed from my main site. It was like that for 3 days, and now I have 3,410. A couple of months ago I have almost 9,000, so who knows what the heck google is doing
