Is it normal for newer pages within a site to appear and then disappear? I have had some good luck writing articles over the past few months for my site. All of the articles were ranking fairly well and then all of a sudden they are no longer indexed. I'm afraid that these may have been a little "spammy" but I'm not sure if I am being penalized or if this is just normal for G. BTW, this is my first post on DP. Great site!!
First, welcome to DP forum Regarding this question,it's normal..Google updates this sort of things everyday..One of my sites had been indexed more than 500 pages by google, but these days I could see no more than 100 results in Google.
That makes me feel a little better.... I assume there is nothing I can do to get these pages back into the index quickly other than just being patient and maybe some backlinks??
I think that your newer pages are not de-indexed.. they may just fall out of the SERP listing. You can check if the pages are indexed with the site: operator. To increase the SERP of these pages, you are right as you need to attract more organic (content related) links from quality pages
I double checked via "site:mypage.com" and they are definitely no longer indexed. I have noticed over the last few weeks that I have had a lot of pages going in and out of the Google index. Unfortunately, these pages that were delivering some traffic are the ones that are not being replaced in the index.
It might be differences among datacenters. Many datacenters are still showing an old PageRank value and were not updated with the last PR update. Then again, it could just be another Google thing.
You can key in the following into the google search box: site:www.mysite.com Code (markup): Alternatively, you can also use the following tool to find out how many pages are indexed in the respective search engines: http://www.selfseo.com/search_engines_index_report.php
It definitely happens to me before. I have this site and when I first submit to Google, during the day, it can be found via the search engine, but at night, it's gone. This could be due the Google servers synchronizing themselves.
I'm noticing as I go through my indexed pages on G that I have a lot of dynamic urls in the supplemental results (session ID's, etc.). Is there anyway to remove these?
I have seen deindexing in the mid run, then strangely been reinedexed with friends. (more pages) so hold on.
Canonical URLs are a drag I believe it's no more than 3 parameters and 10 characters, session ID's? Forget it. User a Mod-rewrite and 301 redirects where possible (or equivalent). The old longer string canonicals will go supplemental and be gone in 1 year ( or you can use the page removal tool wtice - every 6 months)
Matt Cutts says in one of his recent blogs or videos that the site operator shows an "estimate" of the index and to not get too excited if a page disappears. If you want to make sure it's there just search for that page in google without the http:// as that will cause it to not appear.
Yes,you should be patient..BTW,is it a new site? (less than 6 months old) If yes, your site must be in the sandbox. Quality backlinks will help your site of course.Get quality links as many as you can. BTW,put a link to your site in your signature on DP may help you a lot !
yah i'm having the same sorta issues lately. My site is 4 years old with lots of old supplemental results. So anyway i notice i'm getting alot more traffic last week on the 16th of OCT or close to it and sure enough they indexed some of my new pages.... so i do site:mysitename.com and sure enough the new pages are there, so i'm like ok sweet. Then the next day rolls around and there gone again. But yet then they show up again on the 20th and now gone again on the 21st. Anyone have any ideas? should i wait it out?
Your situation sounds similar to mine supraturbo. My site is about 2 years old, I have been gaining in traffic steadily. Unfortunately, pages keep coming in and out of G's index as well. My biggest concern is duplicate content since my site is generated dynamically. I've noticed that I have a lot of these pages hanging around in the supplemental results and I'm worried that this may be hurting me. I have a lot of static pages that are not even being indexed and I wonder if this could be the reason. I have made some changes to the site to make it more search engine friendly but I would like to know if there is a way to get those old urls/pages out of the index. Anybody have any experience with this?
most of my sites have been deindexed by google. I am trying to inter-link them and see what happens from there
I have found that some of my pages usually leave for a bit, come back later, disappear/reappear it's crazy how it works, but it works so don't worry much about it.
