    Hey I am just wondering

How many backlinks do you need for pagerank 2 or any of the pageranks for that matter?!

    Thanks

It depends on how high the PR of the linking pages are, and how many outgoing links are on that the page.

there's no definitive number. they are all weighted and based accordingly to the algorithm that Google uses to display page results (SERPs)

Yeah, I also think they occasionally adjust the requirements for All sites upwards. i.e., what qualifies for PR5 two yrs. ago might only be PR4 today.

PR2 should not be that hard to achieve. You could do it with just 1 link, but there are a lot of factors involved in the calculations so my answer would be: Not that many.

Depends on the outbound links of that page. I'd be surprised if themilliondollarhomepage passed on a PR1 even though it's a PR7. (Just an extreme).

Most PR4 links would do it.

Here an example of PR2 site:
-A website I put online about 2 weeks or so before the last PR update (19oct2005)
-There was only one recipical link on it to a PR3 site.
-The site has very little content....about 10 pages.

if you set up your site, with a pyramid structure so that you pass links fromm one page up to another page ans them up to the index page you will get more Internal page rank. Gettting just a few links will get you your PR, The main thing is reduce the number of links going out :)

I did a quick test just before the last update ( jagger) in October and go a PR 4 in 14 days, not much work at all.

    http://www.eric-gehler.biz/The-14-day-Google-Page-Rank-Experiment.pdf
you can see the test and results in this PDF.

    Interesting...

According to URLTrends, http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/ not only passes no page rank, but it has no outbound links. I guess that's because they're all inside the javascript?

    Current Rankings:
    PageRank: 7/10
    Alexa Rank: 1,219

    Incoming Google Links: 1,300
    Incoming Yahoo Links: 39,500
    Incoming MSN Links: 57,308
    Incoming Alexa Links: 0
Overall Incoming Links: 98,108 (Overlap is possible - Estimated 85,311 unique links)
Outgoing Links: None Found - No PR Passed

Just submit your site to my directory: www.linknow.co.nz and you get pretty close to a PR2 (or even get there) :)

So it means that when a page with a PR 5 link to you you get a PR 3 ? it works by subtraction ? So if a PR8 link to my site i will get a PR5 or PR6 ?

To put it short: no. It's not as straightforward as you described here...

For example, if a page with a PR 5 has thousands of outgoing links, and link to your website is merely a one among those thousands - you'll hardly get a PR of 3.

Just one link from a PR 4 could do it .
If there are very few ,( 1-5) other outgoing links on the page .
Also don't forget that internal pages it is linking to will also share PR from that page .

Second option , Get as many links you can and forget about if they are pr 0 or 4 . The 0's will later pick PR and 0 does not mean 0 but less than 1 .
    Regards
    Jeet
