I was checking a PR on a website, to compare it against mine, this website is higher ranked than mine when i type the word into google. But when i used a Page Rank checker i.e. http://www.checkpagerank.net I seem to get the following on the sites pr! Apparently its PR1 but then it says: Pagerank seems to be forged! What does this mean, he's a PR1 with nomore than 23 links from other pages, how cums he ranks higher amd what does the forged mean?
pagerank forged: There are a few tricks used. One is to used Paid links to temporarily and artificially boost PR. These domains are sold for a higher price, then the paid links are taken down, and the PR drops to PR0 or PR1, 2 etc. I would call this gaming PR more than forged. some of these tools will take that into consideration, having a db of paid link sites, etc. or looking for patterns in the backlinks, ie Ip addresses, ros links (run of site), etc. The other method utilizes 300 series redirects. I wont get into the specifics, and it aint effective like it used to be......but someone could own a HIGH pr site, say PR7, and redirect it to a PR0 site, and 'displace' that PR onto the PR0 site, which later becomes PR7. They sell the domain for $1000 or whatever, then take down the redirect on their REAL PR7 site. Luckily google has tried to address all instances of this years ago.......unfortunately, there are still a few loopholes best not discussed. Just use the tools when in doubt. use archive.org, look at the whois data, run backlink checks, get the OWNER on the phone, etc, to prevent gaming the system. as for his particular case you are referring to, i dunno. maybe they are using a combination of PR forging and good sem tacticts to best you.
