yes PR is important but not to that extent where u feel your site will not rank in SERP if you dont have PR at all

 

I think you're really lost about the importance of PR. PR and SERP is not directly related. PR will not affect your sites ranking in SERP.
Don't give too much importance about PR.

Some people buying links from higher PR because they think also what you're thinking. Which is completely a myth. Entiendes!

PR tells the Googlebot how often to crawl a page. High PR pages get crawled more frequently. That is the value of PR.

 

perhaps internal PR, I do not believe that the toolbar is any accurate valuation of anything.

 

IMO a new site "usually" can receive a PR4 easily without many BL's at all.

 

Your right, one good link from a PR 5 page can get a PR 4 for a new site.
