Just wanted to share an pagerank/ search engine position example:

Page rank is still playing an important role in google; I will demonstrate this using an example:

go to google and seach for keyword:

christmas shopping


you will see: (Note: search engine results may vary depending on where you are searching from)

(2)allthingschristmas
(3)everythingchristmas

now lets examine:
allthingschristmas.com

You will see that alexa rank of allthingschristmas is 98,920 and everythingchristmas is 882,491.
and if you look at their page rank:
allthingschristmas pr5
and
everythingchristmas pr4.

So your saying their pagerank has got them into the top three results in Google?
Have you not considered that these sites probably have thousands of backlinks pointing to their site?

Your proof shows nothing, for every search you show i can show 10 more where a lower PR is ranking higher. Anchor text is a more important factor.

 

Yes, but pagerank doesn't increase search engine rankings. I've got a PR0 site that ranks on 4th page of google for a popular keyword, and its rising, why?
because of the backlinks pointing to the site!

Presented example is to weak, to get into any conclusion. PR theory is well described, but in the other threads.

 

That was only a coincidence but if you would check more keywords you can see that there's lot of sites that has PR0 but has good rankings for a highly search keywords.

#2 for "Buy Viagra" is Gray PR
#2 and #3 for "Buy Viagra Online" are gray PR
#5 for "SEO Forum" is PR0
#9 for "Play Poker Online" is PR0
