We know that google assigns pagerank to webpages. But are the pageranks assigned per keyword? Doesnot look like. Looks like pagareanks are assigned to pages. Again we know that hyperlink texts to url mapping is used in google search. But how does it combine the two pieces of information: Say: There are two sites jimshealth.com and movies.com with pageranks of 8 and 7 respectively. Now theres only one page in the world which has the word movies in its links to any page and its at xyz.com which have two links: Download latest movies: linked to jimshealth.com and Download blockbuster movies: linked to movies.com Now for the keyword: movies , does it mean jimshealth.com will be higher up in the search results than movies.com !! ----- ONE DIFFERENT SCENERIO -- Say for keyword "income" the number 1 page is "getincome.com" and its pagerank is 5. And yahoo.com is at 5000th in the search results. So if yahoo.com has a link "earn income" to x.com and getincome.com has a link "earn income" to y.com and these were the only links in the world to x.com or y.com, in the search for "earn income" which site will come up higher in the search ??? Thanks for reading.
ok .. so if page A is having a link to page B. So the only things that matter are: 1) pagerank of the page A 2) keywords which are in the hypertext. And so it doesnot matter at all how important page A is with respect to the keywords. So if for the keyword "movies", page D is listed in the top of the search and page E is at 1000000th, and both pages have a link called "movies" to my page, and if pagerank of E > pagerank of D, then the link from page E is more important !!! Right?
Page Rank is all about the relationships between Pages, hence the name. (plus it was a play on the name of the developer Larry Page). Please understand that page rank has practically no corellation to Site ranking. Page rank is just a by product of linking. It is not a quality benchmark, it is a pure mathematical calculation that plays very little part in the Google algorithm other than as a tie break all things being equal or for duplicate content. Keyword relevance is all about a complex algorithm that takes into consideration about a hundred factors, the greatest of which is the anchor text used to link to that page (referred to as off page content or off page factors or off page SEO), in relation to the actual content on the page being pointed to, and the content of the text surrounding the link (although the immediate content statement is often debated). The only reason that some of the top sites have high pr values is because they have quality links pointing to them. You acheive a high PR (Page rank) by either sheer weight of numbers in links, or fewer links but from higher pr pages. But it is NOT the pr of the page that is placing the page where it is for that search phrase, it is the SEO, on page and off page. The better being a combination of both, i.e. do everything you can with the onpage factors like page title (the most important) and all the other use of the word navigation structure etc. then leave the on page alone and get on with the off page stuff. Returning only after a short while to make any slight adjustments needed. Forget about Page rank and focus on relevance of title, content and offpage content in the link anchor text. Sort out the links, and th PR will follow on from that.
Isn't The Hilltop algorithm exactly that - giving pages a score based on links from sites that are considered experts for specific keywords? And it's said that this algo is already in place, and used for ranking in Google.
