I guess on the last PR update, My website is http://hausfay.com The site was also found within the first 50 results for some not very competitive keywords but now I am not even within the first 1000 results. Does this have to do with my PR dropping ? I have read about the penalty that google might impose on duplicate content. Both www.hausfay.com and hausfay.com used to work but today I started redirecting the www to the non-www URL. Does the fact that www and non-www both work alert google of duplicate content ? Any thoughts ?
No you wouldnt get penalized for the www and nonwww Only thing I could think of without knowing a bunch about the site is maybe you had some server downtime which could cause this easily. Or a drop in backlinks.
My website was PR 4 and then zero. But it lasted only a few hours, I guess because I updated my website. Try again a day later and see.
Totally true, as Eric says, this is usually a temporary condition that returns to normal after a day or two on weekends. Furthermore, your site sometimes display the pagerank on a Googles datacenter with no info while others may keep running the info for your surfers. When in doubt about your pagerank query multiple datacenters using this tool: http://www.wmtoolkit.net/seo-tools/pagerank-checker or http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank-dc.html
@Mystique and Eric The PR has been 0 for more than 2 weeks so it does not seem that its something temporary. @Aaron How do you measure backlinks in G link:hausfay.com ? What are my backlinks in this case 2 or 5. Why does google only know about 5 links, I must have more than 10 backlinks ? Does it really matter to google whether backlinks point to hausfay.com or www. hausfay.com ?
Yep, it happens whenever I update my content... Dont worry, you get back to where you belong in no time. Just give the spiders time to visit you. Sometimes its taken a few hours, other pages loose PR for days, but then they get back into place. Depends on the amount of changes you've made, I think.
