pagerank drop but SERP drop out of top 10 why?

my site has been on the web almost 10 years. so years ago i put up a product page in a subfolder of this highly powerful google site. lo and behold it became # 1! Was #1 or so for years. Now #19. the main site was pr6 for years now is pr3. the subpage was pr6 now pr2. so i assume one or two things happened. years ago i did sell links and had 3 external links which they probably think are paid. so i added nofollow to it. wonder if this will make it better??(anyone venture a guess). the other thing is that this subpage is not really related to main site content... sort of but not really. so there are no backlinks to this specific page. I was using power of the main site to drive this to the top.

Now that i am #19... what would be the best thing to do to try to get to top 10 then top 5? I have been doing blog comments (yes i know they have nofollow) , written articles for ezinearticles, but what else? need some ideas to get this to #1.

I have a copy of this page on a standalone domain..could i have gotten smacked for duplicate content?

    thanks kevin

    URLs would be useful

But it could be a number of things...
maybe some sites have dropped their links to your site. Or their PR has dropped and the knockon has hit you.

How is your main site ranking?

Sometimes Google does a 'Google Burp' :D and their results go haywire for a week or two, and then settle out again as they were before.
maybe this has occurred....more info needed!

Also, it depends how competitive the keywords are for your site?

Add more pages (than just 1)....add more original content.
Drop link bait around the net to get links to your site.
Ask relevant sites to link to you.
Use a standalone domain....redirect the old subdomain with a 301 permanent redirect.
You will start off with no PR maybe but PR is not everything.

DONT BOTHER posting in nofollow blogs unless you have a genuine desire to comment.
It counts for nothing to google. hence the nofollow!

    Keep us posted :)

The standalone domain might have caused you some problems with duplicate content.

Might be worth doing a simple redirect with the standalone domain, so that if anyone types it in, they are automatically redirected to your other site.
