I have no idea that was my point, I see no direct relationship between the two. PR to me is just more of a prestige symbol or an ability to sell links for more money with higher PR.

so Google created this PR system so webmasters could feel prestige when they get a higher ranking but it serves no practical purpose for serps?

PR is only one of the factors in deciding the overall SERP. Let's think of it this way, when we key in a search query, are we looking for pages relating to the keywords or pages that are important only (in Google's view)? Google only tries to combine this element along with the relevancy before showing the results.

Content relevancy is still the most important factor for the search engines. Google is PR10 but it's not shown anywhere (at least for the first few pages) when I query for 'Yahoo'.

I was not saying I was searching for the same keyword for both sites, I was saying the two sites are different niches. Searching for your site with the wrong keyword is stupid! I am talking about search results for the most relevant keywords for your niche. For example, my stumble exchange blog is PR0 and shows up as #1 for keyword "stumble exchange". My frugal website is PR3 and does not show up for frugal, frugal living, thrifty, or any related term.

I have a couple of sites that only have a pr of 2 or 3, but I get placed above sites with with higher PR. Google's SERPs are company secrets and many people try to guess at why they are placed where they are placed, but no one really knows. PR plays a role. We just don't know how big a role.

good quality backlinks increase your ranking in google

page rank is a side product of this

thats all there is to it.

you can have a pr8 site which doesnt rank for any keywords in google because there are hundreds of other things to consider

If you post an article containing a link to your site, on web site with let's say a PR 7 , and the exact same one on a site with a PR1, they will have the same relevancy, but it's clear that the inbound link from the PR7 is going to help you a lot more. So people... PR does matter, a lot! but NOT YOUR page rank....

Remember one thing, relevancy isn't worth that much without PR, and PR isn't worth anything without relevancy :D
