PR is the root of Google, too bad we can't see some real time PR and we only see an outdated green bar

That was a good read. PR measures the sites importance according to Google.

This is extremely well saying. Check facebook for example. I never saw any piece of it show on SERP, but I see that facebook has a PR of nine in almost all of its pages.

Lol Lexiseek, if what you said was true then the whole of Google should be scam as the heart of everything is PageRank. Sorry but I think if you really try to do a little more reading/research I'm sure you'll disagree with what you said yourself :)

But examples of PR0 pages ranking high on page one for very competitive keywords are consistently rare, almost nonexistent.

Who cares if a PR0 page ranks high for KWs that are rarely searched for? Those examples abound, and they prove nothing.

to see an example of what Jim is talking about: do a Google search for the term "Computer"

    Apple - PR 9
    Dell - PR 8

proof that PR is still relevant on highly competitive terms.

I'm still kind of skeptical of the correlation between PR and SERPs. There are just so many cases of low PR sites outranking higher ones for competitive terms to come down with a conclusive 'Yes it does' theory.

Maybe that is because the lower pr ones are mainly focusing on a different keyword string altogether which the higher pr sites are not. Meaning, the cumulative pr juice of the primary keywords of a low pr site can be higher than the cumulative pr of the secondary keywords of a high pr site, thus outranking it in the engines. Simple!

Exactly Djmc, and hopefully it will stay that way as well. Otherwise people would simply manipulate the engine results by just getting backlinks to their respective site. Simply backlinks means nothing anyway, just like simply pr means nothing. They both are dependent on each other!

PS: Sorry for replying late, but I missed your post even though it was just above my last post apparently :(

Good assessment - Google spends a lot of time and computing power calculating the PR and links between site. They would hardly do this for no reason.

Thanks a lot 1nspire! But those are my assessment, no one can pin point how Google sees PR except maybe only Google!

Indeed Dmccarthy.. There is simply no other reason for Pr's existence except the core value of it overall... It also depends on so many other factors too, but pR is most certainly one of the most leading one of the whole assessment portfolio of G.
