Pagerank 4, no inbound links

    Hey guys,

Just wondering how this can happen? A website I was looking at has pagerank of 4 (shown on chrome pagerank extension), but looking in site explorer sees no inbound links and the link:<website> in google search only shows 4 links from pages on the same site.

Is this possible or this fake PR?

Make sure the Chrome PageRank Extension you downloaded was legitimate, a lot of Google Extensions don't even function the way they should and are just in the marketplace for the promotion of their own website.

If it is legitimate it's possible that Google and Yahoo Site Explorer are in the middle of updating the inbound link count for that website as well.

It could be fake rank, it could be a very, very old site, it could be a dropped domain that has since lost its backlinks but retained its PR.

We can't know without seeing it.

Could be a fake rank - its easy to get a fake rank .. Just redirect a sites URL (only for the bots) to a URL with PR of your choice . Say u have a PR 0 site and want to make it appear like a PR 6 then you can write a a code which will see if a visitor is a BOT or a real human using the IF condition . If it is a bot then 301 redirect to ezinearticles.com if human then no redirect. So naturally since all PR checker tools are bots they will show you the PR of ezine articles which is PR 6 and for a real human he will still stay on your site while the bot has already took a trip to ezinearticles and fetched their PR instead.

    Hey guys,

    The url is desoptions.com

Following on from techlunatic's answer .. what you're saying really makes sense.. I was wondering how you "fake" pr. Not that I want to .. I think its absurd but handy if you're looking to buy links (like myself!). I guess you can check the redirect by spoofing the user agent and seeing where it takes you

Page rank does not only depends on the links to the site it also depends on the quality of the content and the website. There may be links from the pages to the website that is not shown in Google search you can cross check with yahoo site explorer search. it will show you all the back-links that the page posses.

Note google calculates page rank depending on the unique pages and keyword relevance to each page if the entire site you mentioned focuses more on a single keyword and regularly updated then google will obviously give it a high page rank.

I once got my blog which so very fresh that it was only 12 days old and every day updated with 5 articles all from a free content network which was posting articles on behalfs of me every single day at different times of the day. But now such content networks have become duplicate content house. So i check every post often to be as unique as possible.

google may use several factors for measuring the page rank other than the number of backlinks.

The site had a handfull of backlinks coming from high PR sites. The domain was also in the financial niche so just being in that niche with good content and just a few really good authority BL There is no doubt that at one time it was a Real PR 4 site at one time. But now that the niche and content is not Financial anymore all the PR and great authority has gone down the Sh!t tube:(
