http://www.viperchill.com/blog/page-titles-viewed-as-backlinks/ Just posted up this blog entry, wondering whether google sees page names as some form of internal backlink, or simply doesnt have the wording in its system to actually describe why that page ranked for that keyterm Discussions and comments welcome , and thanks to John Scott for the initial idea
AngelusC, Excellent test. I'm not sure if you are referring to the page title tag (seo tests are fun), or the actual page name (louissharonsimon.php). I assume you're talking about the page name. I would say their terminology is correct because all of the links pointing to louissharonsimon.php do appear in the URL of the link itself. As for counting it as a backlink, I'm not to sure about as Google could possibly be finding the term in the URL and just doesn't have standard terminology to say "this term is only found in the url". If I had to guess, I would say it counts as a link, but carries no anchor text weight for that term (like an image link would).
Thanks, much appreciated. Yes, the blog is updated regularly, and we are currently writing a 100+ page seo book that will be released for free in the coming months I was referring to the actual page name, sorry if that wasnt clear. Yes, i was wondering about the terminology about whether they could actually "say it" or not. Interesting ideas, thanks for sharing
I love SEO tests, especially ones like this that seem so promising. Is there any way to get on an email list to be reminded about that SEO book you'll be releasing for free? I'd love to get a glimpse of it!
I do have a list ready, but if you PM me your email address ill write it down and email you when its ready
