I have a quick question. I own two "free stuff blog" websites. One of them has a pagerank of 2 and has the title of "Free Stuff - Free Samples - Updated Daily". My Other website has a pagerank of 0, and has the title of "Free Samples - Daily Freebies - Free Stuff Updated Daily" I didn't know pagerank mattered this much. When I do a google search "Free Samples Daily Freebies" (which is pretty much the title of my 2nd website) the first website (pagerank 2) comes before the second one I listed. Same thing for almost any search I do. Even if the keywords are more relevant to the second website I listed, the first one comes up before the second one. Is this because of Pagerank? Thanks
Pagerank isn't the only factor Google takes into account. Backlinks ( and their anchor text), on page optimisation and domain age are just a few of the supposed factors they use to rank a site.
Thank you for the reply. You mentioned backlinks and their anchor text..what do you mean by anchor text? Would it be better if I posted a comment (for a backlink) on a blog under the name "Free Samples", compared to my name "Jason"? I didn't know the anchor text made a difference What would you recommend? Thank you
Google Google is the anchor text for the above URL. It would obviously be better if you used " Free Samples" instead of "Jason" When Google sees a link pointing to your site with the anchor " Free Samples", it views it as a vote for your site for the keyword "Free Samples". The stronger your source of links, the stronger the "vote" Most blog comments are no follow these days. You'll probably be better off using your time more productively in other forms of link building.
Thank you so much. Very helpful, I appreciate it. One more question if you don't mind. What other forms are there of link building? I am fairly new to this, and I am still learning. All I have been doing is commenting on blogs, that's about it. I would love to try some other forms of Link building.
There are many ways to build links. I'll just list a few. 1.) Buy Links 2.) Exchange Links- two way or three way depending on what you want. 3.) Create viral content that is lapped up by the blogosphere. 4.) Do some guest blogging in exchange for a link. 5.) Create a Wordpress theme and add your link at the footer. 6.) Submit your sites to free directories. 7.) Sponsor a contest- Many SEO contest organisers do it for link building. 8.) Yahoo! Answers, Google Groups, Wikipedia, Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger, Wordpress. *Note- not all of these methods are "whitehat" ( buying of links especially). You are advised to use your discretion before following any of these methods.
