Page Rank Is Not at All Links

Just thought I'd post this for a chuckle. A friend of mine who is just learning about pagerank and SEO stuff refuses to believe when I say it's all about backlinks when you want to increase your PR. He has basically told me that I don't know what I'm talking about and that pagerank has nothing to do with links. He also thinks MSN and Yahoo serps are affected by pagerank (I think - it's hard to understand what he is saying). This is what he sent me, thought I would share - aren't you glad to know that all you have to do is take down your whole site and FTP it back up every day?? :)

"Next it is HUGE mistake according to base page rank on Google.

    It is a fast fix.

Everyone I talk to warn me of this.

    Here is why:

AOL, MSN, etc feed off google. Yahoo KEEPS files the longest. MSN hardly updates URLS, AOL has 50% of the content. Now let us go back to the feed off concept. If AOL and MSN are feeding there is a reason. They are taking UPDATED FTP not PAGE RANK.

THE KEY TO SITE PLACEMENT IS A SIMPLE TRICK.
EVERY DAY TAKE YOUR SITE (THE WHOLE THING) DOWN AND FTP THE WHOLE THING BACK UP.

    IT WILL BOOST YOU AMAZINGLY.

PAGE RANK IS NOT AT ALL LINKS. THE LOGIC WOULD BE THAT EVERYONE WITH A GOOD URL WOULD HAVE MILLIONS OF CONTEXT-URL (name of the url, say london.com would have all LONDON keywords as ref.) NO: FTP, REPEATED TITLE BAR AND BODY MIRRORING OF TEXT AND (SURE LINKS HELP)."

That post should be nominated for the laff of the day award IMO, if only it wasn't so pathetic.

I'm glad you got a laugh out of it. I myself am nearly at my wit's end because this person has sent me several emails like this today. The title of his last email was "READ AND LEARN."

I don't really know where he's getting that information but it seems impossible to respond to that email.

Here is another one - now I've got to go to sleep. His emails have freaked me out so much I haven't been able to sleep. LOL

"You have a very interesting conception of page rank.

It might work for engines which update often content. MSN will not work at all like this. Neither do meta engines such as copernic. People NO LONGER USE LINKS FROM SITE TO SITE.

THEY USE 4 TIMES THE SAME WORD ON THE TITLE AND 4-7 TIMES WITHIN THE PAGE."

I'm using Yoga to increase my PR. I also have evidence it depends on the moon cycle.

    Perhaps the most amusing:

"I am thinking that maybe I could write a page about page rank on our sites and see if this boosts our page rank !!! The idea is to get keyword listing for that term!!!"

Personally I prefer the more scientific approach and so am investigating to see if pages which have the number of words on the page exactly equal to the square root of any prime number will achieve higher rankings.

Mel, I'm sorry to say that you're way off base on that one. Any real SEO knows that it has to equal pi.

All of your opinions are skirting the real way PR is computed. Larry and Sergi have decided to break it down to math's mose simple concept. They have hired a team, trained by NASA, of well trained spider monkeys. The group, which is led by a monkey named Alphonse, has the mission to analyze each page with an abacus.

    http://sawmac.com/dwmx2004/tutorials/examples/DWLayout/layout.html

As you can see in the article, Alphonse was able to compute Pi to a trillionth digit, which is where you are right- PR does have something to do with Pi, but Alphonse will not let on exactly what role it plays.

Everyone knows that PR is given by the same stork that delivers babies.

BTW we should let this guy keep thinking that you increase your SERPs by FTP'ing every day. That is one less competitor to have to deal with. As a matter of fact we should start promoting this as the only way to do SEO.

I heard the more you mention Google, MSN or AOL the higher your rank in the SERPs.
Quanitified by the number of times your site is visited by NASA monkeys who randomly generate 8-12 digit numbers with a pair of 20 sided die and then enter that into the address bar, thus randomly hitting different IP addresses.

Then they take your IP and divide by 5.13 until the remainder is a digit within the 0-10 range and THAT is your page rank.

It's really simple when you think about it.

All these responses are cracking me up. I feel much better now, because I felt my brain was going to explode reading his emails by myself!

He said he wants to write a page on page rank -- can you imagine what that would be like? :D

I'll post it on my blog and even give him a backlink if he likes (Not that it will do his PR any good)... ;)

I'd love to see how many comments that post would get :D

Personally, I upload a jpg of a $100 to google's super secret ftp site every day. I figure since this is the internet, digital cash is far more valuable than real money. Then I send about 200 emails to googleguy wishing him a warm and fuzzy morning in return for google's favorable view upon my site. An altar to the big G on my desk doesn't hurt either.
