It seems i have sparked quite a debate!! I guess essentially there is no getting around the fact that a quality site (with considered SEO) will create its own traffic and backlinks and in turn produce good search engine results!!
Yes, you said, Does, being at the top of Google increase traffic? In my experience it does. Here you're talking about link sales, that's a different question to the rankings that we're talking about. I think everyone is querying what you said here, It's simply not true, one PR6 link won't make a page rank. Things like authority and relevance are far more important when chasing rankings.
I do my best not to try and argue with people who are oblivious to the abundance of resources around them that prove otherwise. Please do not spread this misinformation (stupidity) anymore than it already has... Fortunately, someone's already linked to a very well-written article regarding the myths of PageRank and I urge you to bookmark it. If you still think you're right after reading that, please come back with some sound-evidence supporting your claim. You'll find it hard to find. Even with Google.
I run quite a few websites and I have found PR to be next to useless. One of my sites is ranked number 1 for quite a few competitive keywords. That site only has a PR of 2, and it constantly out ranks sites with much higher Pagerank. The second ranked site has a PR of 6. The argument about selling links from a high PR site is now mute anyway. If you sell links on a high PR site, Google will find out and punish you and you will loose your PR and maybe even loose ranking. At the end of the day, I always worry about getting traffic. PR means nothing to me, and if I have a high PR site, I treat it the same as my PR 2 site!
I don't need SEO courses thanks. Basically i don't want readers of this thread thinking that pagerank is important, because honestly it is not. There are several factors which effect your SERPs not the importance of pagerank but indeed the amount of links you have incoming to your website. You need not worry about pagerank instead worry about increasing traffic this in turn effects any rank on your website both alexa rank and pagerank.
you are wrong and dreaming. If it was that easy, Google would just rank website depending on how much money they spend buying links. That doesn't sound right does it? Here is a video of Vanessa fox talking about PR and sitemaps. Her advice? DON'T WORRY ABOUT PR. The useless green bar is updated every few months and doesn't really reflect the private PR, which is the one that matters. http://videos.webpronews.com/2006/12/06/vanessa-fox-clarifies-the-role-of-google-sitemaps/ info from matt cutts blog http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/more-info-on-pagerank/ relevant post http://www.webmaster-talk.com/the-google-forum/95150-toolbar-pr-and-why-not-important.html as long as there are people like you, there will be people buying links. I've never bought a link and have many sites on first page of Google. nah, i think i'm good. but thanks tip: spend half of the time you spend focusing on PR writing unique relevant content that people will want to link to and you'll see magically it will help your SERPs way more than your PR (relevant content + incoming links)
This is exactly right. The underlying reason why so many people think PR is of such importance - the resell value. Personally, the reason I aimed to have a high PR in the past is so that I can sell links to people like you who value it so much! Difference is that I do it at 0 cost!
OK !! OK!! Every one has their own thoughts... And I shared What I learnt, I actually learn the SEO from the ebook "SEO Made easy" by bred Callen. After reading that I thought that Page Rank would be a major factor for search engines... May be that was an outdated one. I shared What I know that all... I am a Newbie for this forum as you can see the post counts. And I really began to like these forum talks. Lots of debates and info... Keep up this, and thanks to all for a healthier debate.
That's the danger of learning SEO though eBooks and forums. The amount of misinformation around is unbelieveable. Personally, if you want to learn SEO then it's hard to beat visiting SEOMoz and Sphinn every day
Page rank is not of much importance these days. Instead you must focus on the keywords. If a site is ranking for different keywords in top searches, it is much better and it will drive traffic to the site. Keep on building backlinks and do not worry about the PR.
i have around 170 high pr links on my website and last month got downgraded from pr1 to pr 0 cant understand it seems to be very hit and miss to get good pr
No. Pagerank is not very important when it comes to Search Engine Rankings. It's just a status symbol and some people make money with it by selling links. As you can see in search results, there are new sites with good content are ranking well even they have N/A Pagerank. So, it's all about the content.
Page rank is extremely important, in that it determines how high you get on search engine results. it's helpful to have your incoming links be from reputable, relevant sites, your outbound links will also be more valuable to those pages you do link out to.
As i think, pagerank is the only we can see in google toolbar, but if we concern about whole search engines then its not as such important. Every search engine having its own algo ,yahoo and msn not support pr funda. So,its not so important.
why people are bother about so much on only page rank. Just play fair game with Google. Your site will automatically top in google.
Of course he didn't. That's a big problem with DP; people read a single post, instead of an entire thread and post these stupid responses that have already been de-bunked.
