One month back my pagerank changed from 0 to 4 . Now today it is back to 0  . Can anyone tell me why it could have happened. Have sold only 4-5 text links . Is it temporary thing ? Has anyone faced this issue before.

Maybe a bad guy reports your paid links with google. Remove the links and pray

I think it is a penalty to your site as you are selling links. Also, did you wrote any paid posts?

Yes I had one paid post also. Is it a temporary thing, or is it gone for ever :(

May be that is it. I didn't sell any links. but had done a few paid posts and my PR was down to 0 from 3. It still is 0 after two months has passed

Hmmm.... Why would anybody report buying links... If he has bought links from you and your PR has felt he would loose too...

It doesn't matter how many links you sell, google can still somehow find out. That will probably be the reason. Pr changes outside the normal updates are penalties.

What constitutes a paid link? What if you get listed in a directory in your niche that requires a payment, will that get you punished by google?

There are different sorts of "penalties" you can get but when you lose your PR it's usually pretty serious.

You can bet that Google just doesn't rely on snitches for paid links and the best advice is not to sell them of course.

The good news is you're not delisted and you come up #2 for Laugh It Out. Toolbar PR stopped being relevant a while back. I`ve got 1 page with PR1 and the rest PR0 and this is for a 4 year old site and I don`t give a rat`s butt about toolbar PR and have cracked the first page with some pretty competitive keywords with internal pages PR0. So I really wouldn`t worry about this at all and the actual SERPS is what I`d focus on.

It sounds like you were reported to Google for selling links. It is a know fact that many SEOer feel the need to report everyone that is competition. It is easer to tear down than compete. Welcome to SEO

And the next time, don't tell anyone.

Don't post your URL in the Link Sales and Link Exchange sections next time you are planning to sell links. This looks like a penalty (or a broken PR checker) ;)

this is totally penalty for link exchange or links sales. You just delete all the links (that you exchange and sales) and go to the google webmaster tools.. then you can find Request Consideration link.

In my opinion, as long as your rankings have not suffered, I wouldn't worry too much about your page rank

It's already happen to one of my friend with his arcade games website.
He sold links with backlink.com and google removed his pagerank 5 to 0.
Don't sold links on your website.
