I saw this article and was curious what thoughts others may have about it's credibility: http://www.kenkai.com/google-pagerank-table.htm
I think it gives you the ruff idea but thing are much more complex than that in reality. Especially with recent PR glitches when various websites got abnormal PR for no reason.
That's a bit old. Actually, there're a lot more factors that determine the PR. However, that table gives a somewhat close description - the numbers may not be too right, but you get an idea how different PR links add up to your PR.
I also read that article sometime back. I think it is just basic guidelines-- hypothetical at best. They themselves say that. I believe nobody knows what G gives value to every link. But in the end, the info is quite useful-one should have a good idea even if not correct.
yea maybe, the original baseline formula may still be there, but deviations have been made for those who try to break the code
I have a website which is 4 weeks old but if the table there is right, I'm going to have PR4 in the next update.
I probably could search for it, but do you have a reference? It wouldn't surprise me. My blog (in my signature) was about 1 month old when I got the PR4. I have my fingers crossed that I get a 6 in the next update.
Well, that's not true. I know that, and you know that, and most of us know that relevance, traffic, etc. are what counts, but most people do not understand PR. It's important to me to have a site that has high PR for the sole purpose of reciprocal linking. I am tired of trying to convince my real estate colleagues that PR has very little relevance, but I've given up. I give them their PR, and I get the reciprocal link I need. I am certain that once my blog gets at least a 5, and hopefully a 6, I'll have endless requests for 3-way reciprocal links. What's at play here is marketing and understanding who your market is and what they want, not what I or the seo 'experts' want. I need reciprocal links as part of a diversified linking portfolio, and my realtor, mortgage, construction, etc., friends are my market for reciprocal links. Having said all that, this thread isn't necessarily for the virtues of PR, it's for how to figure it out. But I suspect this thread just took a turn!
If you think PRk means nothing, you're never saw how much money can be made from throwing up a hand full of text links on a nicely Page-Ranked site. They also help you in SERPs
That table is completely useless unless you know what the current PR of a page is at any particular time. Since the toolbar PR is a snapshot of about 2-3 months back, there is no possible way to know the current PR of each of your links until the toolbar updates. As far as the Google Algo is concerned, just forget about it. Unless you're John Nash or Euclid, you won't be able to break the "code". And even if you do figure it out, it's constantly being changed and tweaked anyway. Concentrate on what you have been doing and all will be well.
Yup! Try asking for $200/month for a very relevant PR3 text link at text-link-ads.com Then offer up a PR8 non-relevant link for $25/month, and say you have 10 available. I'd bet the first person who sees it buys all 10!
