OK, here's exactly what you asked for:

    1. get a backlink
    2. get a backlink
    3. get a backlink
    4. get a backlink
    5. get a backlink
    6. get a backlink
    7. go to step 1

When it comes to pure PageRank, that's all there is to it.

While you're doing this, every day, check your pagerank now and then. Every few months, Google make an update.

    Hello,
I saw pages without backlinks with PR 3+. Why there have pagerank without backlinks?

Its hard to derive a step by step methodology for pagerank but still following calculation may work for you,:)

85% of PR is passed to outbound links which is then divided as per the no. of outbound links..so if you assume to have 40 backlinks from PR1 pages,20 from PR2 and 10 from PR3(which is quite possible for any newbie) and every page has 100 outbound links on an average...your site can easily get PR1 in following manner.

    40(1x0.85/100)+ 20(2x0.85/100)+ 10(3x0.85/100)= PR1
    (note:default PR is 0.15 not 0)

(Best of luck to all of you for possible PR update at the end of this month)

Even i have a site for which i haven't done any link building yet but PR5!
this is possible if site was previously redirected to high PR site till last PR update...it will keep on showing the same till next update even though the redirect is removed.:)
