I have a question in my mind, so i wanted to ask here. Suppose that if a domain has 4 PR, and a person do not renew it and get expired. will it's PR be finished. what happen if another person register that domain after 7 days of it's expiration. Thanks in advance. Usman
in most time, if the domain is not up after expiration, google may de-index it thus PR will be dropped. If the backlinks are strong enough, the PR would retain. Basically PR = the strength of backlinks.
DP really is going downhill... ALL replies in this thread so far are pure nonsense. The only determinant factor is if the links are still up. True story: We had a domain that wasn't hosted for about 5 years. We put it back up and it got PR6 right away. It did have a ton of incoming links and a lot of them were still up, hence the high PR.
What you told is correct I agree with you. Pr will be there as long as it has backlinks. No matter it is expired or not.
I've noticed that google would remove the PR, unless the same (pre existing) site is put up again on that domain.
This is a statement from an employee of Google on tihis matter (Googleguy in Webmasterworld). All his statements suggest that linke and PR of expired domains will be reset at once stage. http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/10036.htm "Hey, the index is going to be coming out real soon, so I wanted to give people some idea of what to expect for this index. Of course it's bigger and deeper (yay!), but we've also put more of a focus on algorithmic improvements for spam issues. One resulting improvement with this index is better handling of expired domains--the authority for a domain will be reset when a domain expires, even though dangling links to the expired domain are still out on the web. We'll be rolling this change in over the next few months starting with this index." "rfgdxm1, you can get that domain into Google; you just won't get credit for any pre-existing links. Alec_Doggone, glad you asked that. Right now the penalties can remain on a domain. So you'll want to do your research before you buy a domain. Check it out in other search engines, see what the Internet Archive had as the previous content for that domain, etc. " "When you register a domain for the first time, you won't get the old links for free. You'll have to get them the old-fashioned way. " "chiyo, you've got it exactly. There aren't any penalties for expired domains--they just don't get credit for pre-existing links. mrguy, if you ever see a problem, you can still fill out a spam report. JeremyL, we're using multiple sources of data stretching back to 2000 in order to cross-check. No one should get caught accidently. jeremy goodrich, certainly a "forward looking" checker makes sense. We do have enough data to go back quite a while retroactively though. Glad you like the GoogleGram idea. If you send an email to about that domain you mentioned in your post (and it's within our guidelines now), you can probably get it re-included. why2kit, I tried to gently hint several times that buying expired domains just for the PageRank wasn't a good long-term plan. Hopefully this info will help webmasters look for sites with good names or visitor traffic, because it won't help to try to buy an expired domain to get PageRank."
PR will drop after few days. Because when the bot will come he will not be able to access pages. Therefore the PR will decrease. May be it will retain for 1month.
Only part of a website's PR is due to incoming links. A website can receive PR simply by aging. If the website has links, the age of those links are important. If a website expires and you re-register it, the website is going to have a sandbox period all over again, its going to lose its authority it has built up via age, and its links will no longer be aged links. However, assuming that the website still has the links that gave it PR4 in the first place, you will retain most of the PR. It will be the same amount of PR as if a brand new website was registered and had received those links.
I second xc06. PR mostly be factored by backlinks. If strong backlinks that build the PR is still up and indexed by google, that means the PR is still there, just waiting for the site to be up and get indexed again.
I can answer your question from expirience: Well its just simple luck, i got my 3 PR3 sites go down to 0 and one got to pr2. So basicaly, you will get dropped.
