I'm confused about this Page Rank table. First of all, is this legit (more or less)? Second, what qualifies as a backlink that is counted? Let's say I get 5 backlinks all on posts with a PR of 5 from one blog. Is this going to count for 5 PR 5 links or just 1? Third, do comment backlinks that show up in yahoo site explorer mean they are counting in this? So lets say a PR6 site with my link in a comment shows up in my site explorer. Is this giving me a PR6 backlink that's counted in the table? I'm just trying to figure it out because this seems too easy. I mean, I have comments on several PR5 or better blogs, and I have links in profiles of PR7 or better sites. Does a site need to show up in site explorer to count in this? Does site explorer show only links that "count" as backlinks?
This is the first time I have seen this chart, so I'm only guessing, but from my experience Yahoo tends to give you credit for more links than google does, so the chart ranking probably refers to Google ranks. Google doesn't seem to give me a lot of credit for posts on other blogs, even if they are ranked a 5+ - so my guess would be these rankings are for google backlinks only.
I just use site explorer because it's a lot neater than googling link:"http://domain.com" and going through 10 results at a time discovering them. Plus, the link:"http://domain.com" method shows things that aren't my site. Like results with just word1 word2 word 3 all in order but not part of a domain.
This table in not 100% accurate, it's just an estimations of what other seo expert's have found during their experiments... However, so many factors get's into the Ranking / PR calculation.. I can just list a few which i knew about for you: 1- Total number of inbound / outbound links on the linking website/page 2- Title and mostly the theme of the linking website/page 3- Link place is it in the top area, footer or in-content link 4- Content of the linking page IMHO, PR is all about backlinks and it's one of the most important factors to rank websites within Google SE... but it's just one factor out of many many more others. Even though, we are still seeing domains and pages get's ranked with few or no backlinks at all. Forget to say, that the link will pass PR juice only if it's a DO follow one Hope i was clear and helpful.
The story of my SEO failures... Top site has next to no backlinks, no page rank, and no possible excuse for being there...
for page rank, u need to build links of ongoing basis, no need to look at any table, once pr update, u r effort will work.
I know, I was just trying to get an idea what kind of rank I'm going to get or could get. It kind of motivates you.
Better you keep working then, start by adding some fresh unique content to your website and then move on and build more backlinks then am sure you can outrank the other site if you really worked hard on it Hope my answer above was quite helpful and cleared things a little bit ?
That chart is based on very old data. The algorithm is changed very frequently these days. Disregard!
Is there something newer that you've seen? Just curious, as it's kind of helpful when building links. It makes me realize that things with a PR of 1 or 0 are pretty much worthless at the current time and if it's changed for the harder then I'd like to know if PR 2's are starting to become worthless as well. (My goal is probably a PR4 on the next update. From 0 to 4. I just recently bought the domain though.)
I've seen this chart before. It's interesting but not accurate at all really. At least one of the problems with simply counting the number of backlinks you need to get a certain PageRank is that the PageRank assigned by an incoming link is difficult to determine. The PageRank values displayed for a page are whole number whereas the real rank is more likely a floating-point number. This means that one page showing PR 3 might be PR 3.1 in reality while another could be PR 3.9 and much closer to a PR 4. In my experience, a single, decent PR 4 link is enough to gain a PR 3.
It is partially right. Please note that "no follow" links are not count. And also it is not so simple structure. When you have comented PR5 blogs, your comment is staying on the inner page, which is usually lower PR (even PR0) and you will get lower PR backlink. And the conclusion of this chart is that it is quite important to get large number of backlinks on high PR websites. This is important not only for PR, but also for SERP
If a PR5 page has 5 outgoing links, it does not necessarily mean that each outward link will be PR1. Some links may carry more weight than others and google only knows how it calculates that but for simplicity people just assume that you'll get an equal share of link juice.
I dont believe in any chat or estimate by anyone, if it is not from Google. Moreover Google change this from time to time.
by the original treatise if you get X links on a PR Y page, the the PR Y page has total Z links, you get X*Y/Z PR juice
