Page Rank - Anyone know the science behind it?

Ever since my website updated from a PR 0 to a PR 2 my traffic has increased and has stayed at a higher pace for the past week. People say it doesn't play a role in SEO, but it seems like it does. Anyone know if Google has ever announced anything about this?

That turns up nothing that I am looking for. Is it a tightly guarded secret from Google? You know backlinks play a role in pr, but that's only one area. How does PR exactly work?

Your site might have got a higher SERP(Search Engine Ranking position) for a particular keyword. That might be the reason behind the increased traffic you are getting.

Google treats PageRank as one of 200+ factors that influence webpage’s ranking.

Pagerank does not influence much on rankings and traffic. May be a little. So we should always concentrate on traffic not pagerank.

    Utter and complete rubbish.
You could have a very high PR niche site that was an authority on a specialist subject that would get maybe 30 hits a day from science students.
On the other hand, lots of sites of PR 3 and 4 get loads of traffic.
There is absolutely no automatic correlation between PR and traffic whatsoever.

Page Rank will help your site get spidered by Google. the higher the deeper it crawls.. that's from what i understand..

This might sound weird but true, the last PR update my PR dropped from 2 to 0 for some odd reason. However I noticed since then a slight increase in traffic and my rank on google first page jumped from 5 to 3 searching for my main/obvious keyword let's say example forum since my website is exampleforum(dot)com. I'm trying to understand how this stuff works..
This might be a potential example that PR got nothing to do with traffic.

yes PR has nothing to do with traffic. and it plays less importence role in SEO. It is just that the GG robot craws from high pr sites to low pr ones.
