Expired domains lose page rank? There seems to be a lot of bullshit about this. Some people say yes( Matt cutts) and some say no. a) Yes b) No c) Sometimes
Anyone else. I have read so much bullshit about this. Would like to hear from someone that has actually bought expireds and waited until the next pr update.
d) It depends Quality NOT quantity of EXISTING backlinks - a couple strong links are usually better than thousands of crap links (low or nothing PR, not relevant, etc.). I would recommend putting up the same theme/content (if you put up a site). Parking services/pages are generally not a good idea if your only concern is losing PR - although I have seen more than a few hold their PR with parked pages because the backlinks were strong. If you are quick AND good about it, your chances are greatly increased if these two criteria are met. Also find out if the domain is blacklisted or has been used for any (.....cough.....cough.....spamming) unethical purposes, if it has don't bother with it - it will reset and get dropped from G for sure. Make sure it is cached and not spoofed (that is obvious) in all major DC's. Just a few quick things that come to mind.
I'm agree with you bdmunee I've done this business for years, as long as you can keep the quality of the exp domain, the PR will be kept
usually it may lose the pr for a bit but it gains it bit anyway. So as long as its still got the quality backlinks it will keep its page rank. If its a fake page rank then thats a different story as it will lose its page rank.
This topic has been discussed many times and I can say pagerank in expired domains are ephemeral and usually dropped the next Google's update. For a couple of years I was devoted domainer registering expired pagerank domains that eventually ended up in 0 pagerank, regardless content or how aged they were.
If content changes google will reassess. I had an old site that was off line for a year or more. I made it live again with new content. It got a page rank of 1 on the first update. Maybe just due to the age of the domain but it has very few backlinks. Currently i am worried about another site I just transferred the domain name from one registrar to another. I hope google does not see that as a sale. All the content is the same.
I have bought many expired domains because of good names including AdsenseForDummies.com and 1stGirl.com. Not because of their PR since it would be silly to think that PR will be the same, since different contents and other features (incoming links, etc).
