hi i recently bought a proxy site which was a PR2 site, since havign it i made some changed to the template and now it is being listed as a PR0... so my question is can a template have this much of an effect on page rank? and should i just revert back to the original template? many thanks
The only thing that could have gotten screwed up is if your main homepage isn't the same as it was before. Perhaps it got switched to a home.php or index.php, like pneulameiro stated above: PR is only affected by inbound links, perhaps your site lost a bunch of inbound links and that would affect your PR
I don't think template change can effect PR. In between, I don't think google had updated PR very recently, is it? However, there are some cases like this, that will be back to normal soon, just wait and see. One of my friend too had the same issue and he was worrying after 2-4 days, his PR was back - May be some issues with google. However, the backlinks, content, keywords, meta tags, meta description and etc only influence in PR.
Yes PR has nothing to do with design... But as the other person said... u just have to build links....
I think, now you are confirmed with the given suggestions by our members. I suggest you to get good quality back links and maintain original content for your site so that you can get good PR.
Have you some how change too many outbound links on the main page, or dofollowed contact us and privacy policy?
Some times but not always it may happen if you change the hosting server too, e.g. Class A IP address to Class C IP address etc.
na template i wouldnt think would make that much of a jump or if any difference. it must be your links if you add too many links at once it may affect it but, it should return to normal just give it some time. also not putting links in may change it l and if you lost some of the inbounds. pr is tricky.
For backlinks, could you be so kind to tell some effective ways. For new blogs, expect seperate blogs, can hardly bring any effective ones to the site. Confused! Thanks!
No its not the reason, may be loose some of your back links.. better check with Google webmaster tool
Template not effects your PR. But, if your template having good SEO friendly internal link architecture, it may effect your PR and keyword position.
thanks for the info - i am using the glype proxy theme and all the links that were on the original template have been put on the new template. i have just found an seo optimised theme and from all your posts this won't really make any impact so i will try to build on the links from the original theme again and hopefully i will be able to build it back up thanks you for your advice
the last one i had did have three columns but the new template has only one. i am still building on the original links
