Which is best?
page.php3?q=123456 or page.php3?q=keyword

Can SE's read keywords in the url after the ?=

There is no problem getting both types of pages indexed I was just wondering if having the keyword in the url after the ?= will affect the SERP's

I dont know for certain if the SE's can read a keyword after ?=. but why take the risk? If they can read it, you out to have it. If they cant read it, it doesnt hurt you to have it. So, i would do it.

Ideally neither. You could mod rewrite your pages in .htaccess to be page.php3/q/keyword. I have never needed to do it so I don't know exactly how to do it. It does make your urls a lot more SE friendly

looking at many php websites and the blogs... ( wordpress ) the keywords are not part of the url ... yet they get higher visibility in serps.

But looking at wikipedia and how they deliver each topic as something like a directory structure rather than as a query string one wonders if it does matter...

I think URL does play a role.. On Google when you search for keywords, they appear bold in the URL results. I'm quite certain it matters...
If there is multiple keywords matching up, then it maters for sure..

Keywords do appear in bold in the url but not if the keyword is after the =
so in a search for "keyword keyword2" google would show
www.domain.com/page.php3?keyword=keyword2

Is there any real proof of this? I see plenty of searches where url does not matter at all.

Edit: for google searches primarily.
