I am getting a lot of "Page Not Found" errors showing in analytics but the only things showing as hitting my 404 page are people trying to link to something that doesn't exist, mis-spellings, etc. Any thoughts on where all of the "Page Not Found" errors are coming from would be incredible as I have been working on this for 2 days and even just clicked through the site as a visitor to see if I noticed anything. Maybe if you check in your google webmasters tools you will get the urls that make this Errors... Then you will be sure if it's an internal error or just a miss typing or something...
I currently have analytics setup to show any 404 hit to log and I do see daily 10-25 404's but the analytics from my app shows 200+ "Page Not Founds" that don't actually hit the 404 page. I think it may be something trying to run on a page that is not loading or a file trying to be accessed that doesn't exist but I am having a heck of a time finding what the issue is.
Ok so I found the issue. I have downloads going to a seperate page so that people can link to the download page instead of the file directly or article in the event the file is needed but not related to the article i mention it in. The page is outside of wordpress but calls in the WP head which of course is not pulling in the title information correctly. I have fixed the DL pages to title the page with the file name and all is well.
