I read somewhere that google is more receptive to sites whose individual pages contain atleast a three number long numerical in its name...for example www.domainname.com/12345...what i want to know is can i start the number randomly and then go on in a sequence? like can i start with 24598 and then continue naming in descending order?
    thanks

I have seen a lot of news sites doing this lately.
There may be something to that.

I don't think numbers in url helps in SEO at all.. unless the Google users are querying for numbers ;)

Although Google does consider the characters in url to allocate relevancy, numbers do not have much meaning in them.

I read it in the "for publishers" note in google news. They were very clear saying that if the name of the file does not have a 3 digit number then they are not going to recognise it. Is it same for google?

This is weird. It probably has something to do with the fact that google-news needs to crawl websites for new information extremely quickly - given that news changes so quickly. It certainly doesn't apply to the normal google - or my site would not be found at all :)
