2 domains on the same server using exactly the same theme and plugins, one loads in under 5 seconds the other takes 30 - 60 seconds. The one that takes longer has less content (posts), but I disable a number of plugins anyway, switch to the default twenty ten WP theme and even remove some domains to a different account and it still stays the same 40 - 60 seconds to load. Seems to happen on only certain domains not all. The webhost doesn't seem to be able to fix it, they say it's the plugins and cpu usage. But if that were true wouldn't all the sites be affected? And shouldn't disabling some plugins and removing some domains improve the performance? Any ideas what's going on? Thanks
Huh...it really sounds like your host is throttling your speed because I was thinking "well you probably have more material on the slower loading one silly" before I read that the one that takes longer has less material... No page should take a minute to load in this day, especially not WP. Are both domains from the same reggistrar? You accidentally'd a word, did you mean host in the first sentence "2 domains on the same using exactly?"
Yes it's the same registrar, same hosting account, IP, etc a vps mind you. I thought it affected all the sites but apparently it only affects some domains. That's the strange thing. I thought I had something when they mentioned that the file http://domain.com/?attachment_id=90 was causing the problems, I thought an image on the page wasn't fully loading or something, but I couldn't find it. Seems to start off okay then slowly begins to deterriorate and retuning errors, page not found, etc,
Loading Content also take time. If your content is heavy means have images etc, then it will take time to load images too. Some time few advertisement banner increase load time. See your site and check if there is anything like this.
yeah I realize that the size of the page will affect the load speed, I started building sites before the days of broadband and DSL connections and they were more of a issue back then. The domain I used doesn't come close to using excessive graphics. And it's not just not connecting to the domain, it's also the WP dashboard as well. At times both the domain and the WP dashboard won't connect at all and returns a page not found error, database connection error, etc. And it's not the browser or my computer as while all this is going on I'm able to connect with other sites in my other hosting accounts. I'm also not using any outside connections like pulling info from other sites. Very puzzling, I guess I could try transferring the site to another of my hosting account to see if the problem still persists. Thanks
Shared Hosting providers suck. They will never admit to you that the problem is on their end. I'm having the EXACT same problem with a client's site on Go Daddy going on 3 weeks now. To make it even more frustrating is that it's intermittent. Some days or hours it works fine and other times I get the same thing you are experiencing. 500 Internal server errors ( which is ALL on them), or extremely slow load times. Why does it work fine at 2 p.m. but not at 2:30 ? I wish I knew the answer, but I've spent precious time jumping through every hoop that they've put me through as if this is my first rodeo, only to have the blame put on my computer, ISP, modem, and every other asinine excuse that makes it my fault that THIS ONE WEBSITE on the entire World Wide Web isn't functioning properly because of my hardware. To make matters even more infuriating is when they tell you that everything looks fine on their end and the site is loading fine. Meanwhile, multiple people from different parts of the country, using completely different hardware and ISP's are experiencing the exact same thing. But somehow we are supposed to believe that we are all mysteriously recreating the exact same problem. My solution to my problem, is screw Go Daddy for bullshitting me, and wasting my time and I'm moving my client(s) to a new host and will never recommend them again to anyone. Edited: I should add that I never have these kinds of problems with a Dedicated Server plan. At least not now. However, before I upgraded ( with the same company) I got pretty spotty customer service. Basically, shared hosting "is what it is", seems to be their attitude. The minute I upgraded, the customer service turned around 180 degrees and now they treat me like a king. I never have to wait long for service and if there is a problem, they fix it immediately, or make real recommendations of how to solve it. IOW, they don't bullshit you when you are paying $120 a mo. like they do when you are only paying $7.
I hear you man, that's what I'm getting intermittent errors, although the slow loading time is consistent at around 30 - 60 seconds. No complaints as for the service, I guess the $80 per month for the vps helps. Strangely enough I moved some of the sites to the $25 reseller account and it's faster Really weird as only the vps (less than a year) gives me problems, I have a reseller account and one with seohosting that I rarely need to contact support even though their both several years old. The vps has had 2 other problems prior to this one. Heard some good things about wiredtree.com and am considering moving, but that's a whole bunch of domains Thanks
Just got off the phone with support yet again. The guy finally told me that I wasn't crazy and that it's not the site (which I already knew weeks ago), but that they are trying to continuously decrease server load from shitty sites that they have hosted and malicious attacks that apparently happen 24/7. At least he was honest. THAT I can believe. Gave he his direct contact for when I can catch the problem in the act so that they can backtrace it to see what is happening. They just gained a few points for honesty, but the bottom line is, my clients need their sites to work all of the time.
Could be the problem, maybe they're trying to cut back to much. 39 kb page taking about 60 seconds to load? Here's the message I get when trying to clone the site using a WP plugin: WARNING! No Database information in archive. ---- And the site isn't cloned. The plugin works perfectly on my other 2 hostgator accounts. Anyway I sent the no database info to support and I'm awaiting their reply. 39 kb @ 60 seconds? Thanks
