Guys, As for recent news, Google will start showing ±350 symbols, or already stared. What do you think about it? Are you planning to update your sites description soon for better rankings?
I know we should not be stressed for it, but what is your opinion in general? Do you think it will help/harm or give no big value for SEO?
I have updated descriptions of all pages in my website according to the recent Google update (i.e ±350 symbols), but currently showing description character (314) in SERP, for my keyword.
Different symbols are fine but there is no use of implementing the symbols in places of keywords which we utilize in the description of the SEO results.
As per the new update you can add 230 char within your meta description. I would suggest you to re-edit your meta desc and add your keywords within your description by making it into an attractive description so you can generate quality organic traffic.
As for symbols, I have read some articles that it is best avoid them in description. Google does not display them well in search results + it does not give any value for people who search. So good description, without special characters seems best solution to rank better.
I think he meant "characters", rather than "symbols". Yes, Google has a larger limit for the meta description/snippet. I think it is worth expanding it, as it does appear to factor SEO-wise. https://www.seroundtable.com/google-search-console-more-data-here-24917.html
It should be google displaying symbols not character and upgrading as u stated might not guarantee that specific amount you said, may be we should also see how facebook generate such
I've been seeing a lot of "broken" descriptions since this update. Google seems to fetch descriptions from random places ignoring the tag and sometimes even the contents of the page. I see descriptions that show me menus, breadcrumbs, navigation, footer. A lot of job for SEOs, always a good thing for me Examples:
i think what you need to focus on is implementing the rich text schema for your website rather than updating description text
I have two keywords on page 1 from pages without description. I think meta is not a ranking factor anymore.
I have a site at work that doesn't use Meta Descriptions at all and this has no problem ranking. Is there an argument to be made that a page without a Meta Description can rank for more keywords? Also do you think having a Meta Description that is optimised will increase click through? I am building a site of my own and am unsure which route to take.
Before you do, remember there is more than one search engine out there. Are the others going to allow longer meta description texts too?
