A Dutch company has started selling hardware that you can connect to you TV and download tv-shows and movies from P2P networks including Edonkey, Bittorrent, Fasttrack (Kazaa), Gnutella and Overnet. With this product anyone can now download movies and TV-shows without having to need special software or computer knowledge. What do you think of such a product? source : http://www.lamabox.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1&lang=en
It costs several hundreds of euro's, and thats imo too much. And, I cant imagine how they make this work. On P2P networks there are huge amounts of corrupted, incorret labelled, fakes etc. It's nothing I would buy anyway...
The product itself is now handmade and cost around 300 to 500. But, they are talkin with several companies to massproduce it and then it would cost 180 to 350. It also has a DVD burner and hardisk. So for some people it might be a good solution and price.
I think it's a great idea but will it ever succeed since there is a whole copyright issue going on about this as well? Johnburk, i've seen this as well yesterday on tv and my guess is that the lamabox is going to get a very hard time in these coming days from BREIN and probably other copyright organisations Too bad though because it's a good idea.
An option is to move production to countries such as Cuba or Iran who do not recodnize copyright laws and then export the product.
I don't think this would make a difference since usage of this lamabox is still in the countries where the copyright laws are valid. So then nobody wants to sell it in for example in The Netherlands in shops and wholesales. Every individual would be prohibited to sell the lamabox if the judges would considder this lamabox as a copyright violation. I don't think sales would run as they are expecting if it's illegal...people would have to smuggle the device in from countries you mentioned by some sort of method what so ever. And if involvement is being established from the producers themself then they would even be charged with criminal offenses. If the courts would considder this device as a copyright violation then the whole device has no future apart from countries as you mentioned probably. Too bad tough if this would be the case since i would for sure be interested in such a device
