Overflow sites? How to make one?

Hi there. I am interested in making a site like one of these:

Are there templates for this or is this custom made?

The code is not open source. You can pay $129/month for it. stackexchange.com

There are several open clones out there. I can't attest for their quality.

If you would like Question/Answer type system try phpBB forums. It's php/mySQL and free.

 

It took me 1/2 hour to successfully complete registration on this site, just so I can answer 1 question. At vfxoverflow you can go there and post your answer. No registration needed. You can post a link if you like, so long as you are human. I can't post links here because I'm new.

You should check out meta dot stackexchange and search for stack exchange vs discussion forum. Theres a great google tech talk by joel spolsky that clearly explains the motivation to build stackoverflow the way they did.

 

I'm a co-founder of Copyscape and building a serious PHP/MySQL Q&A platform called Question2Answer at www.question2answer.org - I thought that might be of interest to readers of this thread.

 

also, i read somewhere, stackoverflow uses microsoft mvc framework.
