Over-patriotic Indians

Well, Indians have always been in a mode of denial of the bad things about India. I am from India and have lived here for 21 years..but I am not overly enthusiastic about things being extraordinary here- UNTIL WE ACCEPT OUR SHORTCOMINGS, HOW WILL WE IMPROVE??
I dont think all Indians have a problem with taking criticism- only the ones who CANT IMPROVE have

Anyways, yes, Indians are patriotic and they are against racism (although, we in India have a reservation system in govt. jobs). Probably, your attacking India and Indians being patriotic has hurt most Indians' feelings, so it's better to stop the discussion you know!
As far as the question asked by the OP goes, Indians are patriotic and the reasons have been well elaborated by our very own mod- Wisdomtool. History is witness to the fact that a country which is (or was) on the path of recovery has had great patriotic heroes (Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt are some examples). So, it is natural for Indians to be possessive about our increasing international stance- its not that bad to be patriotic, isn't?

 

I'm not attacking India or Indians. Only those who are so blind to see what is wrong with their country.

There is nothing wrong with loving your country, but loving it so much that you a) can't see it's problems and b) attack someone when they say ANYTHING that isn't good about the country is wrong.

Maybe you can talk some sense into krkbkk, because he obviously doesn't know his own countries history.

BTW - Margaret Thatcher is no way a hero.

 

We know how to look at our own country.

Why you want to take care so much on our country? We know how to handle our own things.

Better go and help your government to telecast the advertisements they've prepared to telecast in Afghan.

 

Good point- I would like to highlight the fine line separating the line of thought and perception of various human beings. She isn't a hero for you, but the mere fact that she was the first woman elect of her country, makes her a hero in my eyes.
So there you have it, you might feel that there are PROBLEMS in India, while someone else, more intimately associated with the country mightn't feel that ways. This is not that BIG an issue bro- just a perception difference!
Just a subtle example- A politician in India might be corrupt and YOU (plus 90% people from the developed nations) might view it as a problem. On the contrary, we, the Indians, already know and realize that our politicians are corrupt, so we have learnt to LIVE WITH IT and therefore, we don't see it as a problem anymore
