I believe that there's no need to remove links from coments because a) they would be nofollow, and b) you can always moderate the comments and remove links if you feel like you must do it. I'd advice to turn on the moderation queue. To do so go to Settings > Discussion and at the Before a comment appears section activate the option An administrator must always approve the comment. That way, you will always have to moderate each comment. You can edit them and remove links if you want (though I think there's no reason for that unless it's a spam comment)
New theme is live now. I spent about 4 hours on it, from 6 am, it is not yet ready still a lot of work ahead, but it was worth it, main page is even W3C valid I turned on commenting and like i expected my post with PR6 got first comment (in Chinese ) within seconds, so i deactivated comments for this page and deleted comment, well do not know if it was spam because i do not know Chinese but, if website is in (pseudo ) english then i expect omments to be in the same language or at least language i know - right? Anyway i need to play with all these "comment" thing i never used it because i thought it will get only spam, so i am quite new to this. What i have to work on now is my "About" page i checked Google analytics and actually this was the only page with Bounce Rate 0% and i kept there default WP about page.
Hahahah yeah that happens I think I would have done the same xD However, I'd leave that post with commenting enabled
I will think about that Anyway, new layout is up for two days and i haven't really noticed any changes in traffic, i know it is short time, but it seems like the theme was not the case :/ I think the problem are articles not design - content is king, right?
You are going to have to market the blog to people who are interested in what you are blogging about.
Complementing what ZDavis said, you may have a wonderful theme, great contents but without some marketing you won't get far. People need to know that you own a great blog. These are some options to give your blog some visibility: - Start a Contest - Send your articles to Ezines or similar sites - Submit your posts to social bookmarking sites (like Digg.com) - Guest posting (write on someone else's site as a guest, it'll bring you some traffic into your blog if your article is good enough)
One thing I find a little out of place with the theme is the menu at the top. Im talking about the one that has all the recent posts etc. Its a little too big and really makes users have to travel down the page to get to the content. You want your content to start as soon as possible.
whoah awsome design, why didnt you do that at the beginning now make your site more SEO effective, look for the all-in-one seo pack plugin and advertise your site
It has been over a week since my last post on this thread, so i thought i post an update. The point is ... NOTHING changed, except that now i get over 100 spam comments a day. So what are your thoughts, what should i do? I sold some links on my website and now have around 100$ for advertising, already bought 350 directory submission service. Soon i will be releasing cool, useful (at least in my opinion) wordpress plugin, so that may get some attention? Any other ideas?
How long has your site been up ? You do know it's baby steps, right? There is not one big thing that will catapult you into stardom, it is a combination of a lot of little things, (like the suggestions in this post ), time, a little luck, and dedication to keep doing them. It takes a while to build steady readership.
Place more images in your article as well. One is a good start, but the more images, the more interest...a practical amount would be 2-5, depending on how long the article is, of course.
I do not understand, do you mean that site is loading very slowly? @hmansfield site is online for about a year, but i didn't work on it much on it there were only few posts and less then 100 visitors a month , i starded to work on it hard in may (2008). @EGS I will try to put more images into my posts, however a lot of my posts are tutorials and i am not sure if they need so many image, unles graphs and schemes which would explain something would do the trick?
Hi Greg, Don't expect to get changes so fast. Be patient, things will get better as time flows. In the meanwhile you might want to read this post, I'm sure you'll find it useful and hopefully will give you a few ideas on how to improve your sites in general. BTW, what's your Bounce Rate now? Has it improved? Is it the same you were getting last week? Is it worst now? How is it? I believe that with a better theme (like the one you designed) your bounce rate should lower a bit.
Well, Bounce Rate dropped below 89% but unfortunately: UV/Pageviews dropped from 1.2 to 1.17, Avg. Time spent on site from 39 to 20 seconds, actually it is 59 seconds but there was one visitor who spent over 1.5 hour on single page, so i think he just felt asleep, if i substract this guy then avg time is about 20 seconds. I think the irony is that my traffic doubled. Ohh and got over 400 spam comments. Ikki i already read this post, i am your regular visitor
Well those stats are not so bad, are they? Somewhere, I read that for blogs a Bounce Rate of 75% is an acceptable value (actually I placed a link to that article in my latest post!). I'm sure that you'll do fine. Just be patient, better numbers will come in time. Wow Thanks!
I know which article you talk about and actually they said that 75% is a point of concern they didn't talk about 90% maybe they thought it is impossible
