A strange thing has happened to me today and I wondered if it has ever happened to anyone else. I just started a brand new wordpress hosted site yesterday and put up a quick post on a product. Today I tinkered with it. Before that I was on clickbank and noticed that I had 60 clicks there from the link id. So on the amended post I changed the id and posted it. 20 mins later it is showing 100 hits in the original analytics. Should I be worried? Just seems a little odd. Please help. Thanks Kaz
They could be bots! There are strange things happening on the web today. Some unwanted bots crawl websites and unfortunately some of these bots appear to trigger clikbank hops. Ask me why people do this? Don't really know. Maybe they just want to give trouble.
Bots? I am pretty new to affiliate marketing so sorry if I sound a little stupid but does that mean they will be getting my sales Or the fact that I can see the clicks on clickbank am I ok? Have been reading a few posts about people taking your clickbank id but am I correct in thinking that if they did I would not see them on clickbank as hops. I am still trying to get my head around the php thing to hide my clickbank id and not sure if I can do it on a wordpress hosted site. thanks for your reply Kaz
Of course they will not be getting your commissions if you make some sales. I mean that there are bots which crawl websites just as Google and other search engine bots crawl sites. Some of these bots (those with bad intentions) trigger Hops, seeming to be real people who visited your site, but they are not real people. They are just bots. Now, if 100 bots come to your site and go - What happens? It triggers your Clicbank hop 100 times, making your Clickbank statistics to show up 100 hops. Bots don't buy when they visit your website. Real people do. Anyways, No bot can take away your commissions if you make any. The only thing they can do is trick you in thinking that you are having so many people visiting your website. Don't know how to explain this very well to you, but i Hope you get the whole picture.
I agree that this may be bots, usually takes google a few days to index and that is where most of your hits will come from. Its nothing too bad, just a major pain in the ass sometimes.
Bots don't click on links If you're using wordpress then you better check where you've place the aff. link, because sometimes if you have it somewhere in your header for example then each page view will be counted as a hop on your link. Al.
