Outward links and PR

I have read that outgoing links dilute a site's page ranking. If this is true could someone explain the pros and cons of reciprocal link building?

 

Stick to one way or 3 way linking except for very relevant sites you might want to recip with. If you want to recip with non-relevant sites make a categorized links page where each can go in their own category. Serps don't seem to be hurt this way.

Outgoing links can be good for your serps if they are relevant. But don't place too many or it will have the opposite effect.

Too many outgoing links can really hurt your site especially if your site is new.

 

Thanks for the tips guys. I think I may just try a 'Link to us' page (inward links only), or look into creating some kind of affiliate program.
