Outsourcing Your Linking - How Do You Track It

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by yfs1, Jul 21, 2006.

I was PMing back and forth with John Loch and he mentioned a few tools he uses when he outsources his linking work in order to ensure that the work is getting done, etc

Most freelancers work on amount of time or how many requests are handled and as we all know, only a percentage are succesful.

What tools or technique are people using to ensure they get the most for their money.

I am going to be hiring a couple of companies/individuals in the next week and I am looking for fresh ideas to track their progress.

Link building is a hard thing to track. I tend to find that any links I buy are pretty cheap so its not really worth monitoring them.

It depends how many links the guys are going to be building. If its hundreds then maybe they can keep a spreadsheet but if its thousands then its probably better to let them get on with it rather than them wasting time creating reports.

In my case, it isn't a one time job but hiring each person to work an hour or two a day indefinately

I know there are others using outsourcing where each person they hire is working a full day of 8 hours

I would recommend asking them to keep a spreadsheet of all links requested, accepted, and pending. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate, but as long as you have the URL's, you can spot check their work, and make sure they are keeping up with the work.

Thats what I am doing now...I was just hoping to hire a few more people and the more I hire, the harder it gets to use manual spreadsheets.

I've hired nearly 20 people at this stage and yet to have one I would recommend. Its amazing how many people think they know what they are doing yet have no clue.

Well yfs1, but you still have not hire me, based on my rankings on Rent-A-Coder I think I know what I am doing:D I still don't receive reply on my last message in PM box. However if you are looking at the low price as first reason to hire, just please skip this post.

And oh.. just forgot to mention that I personally worked for owner of PHPLD for about 1,5 years, then he created his business, so you can PM him and ask about quality of my work;)

At the end of the day I treat it like any large business, can you track every transaction/link/purchase... no.

Therefore imo you need to audit the data received from your link builders who supply the excel info from their own work. I don't know of a solution, but getting spreadsheets of data is normal and being an accountant in a previous life means that I don't mind auditing such data, I used to get bored shitless tracking paper trails when I was a trainee accountant, doing a good/intelligent sample audit would be the best way I guess unless there were tools designed to monitor such services that I am not aware off.

Don't take it personally. I am just doing almost 100% of my work right now myself as I caught 2 of my freelancers cutting corners and not doing the work I specified.

I just have to find a better way to track people before spending any more money. I am seriously considering just hiring locally.

well i opened an office a few month back,
and hired locally a "girl" in this case for the link building.

I made a application in php , which allows her to add website profiles (mine sites)
where she has to add the domain where the link has been requested to, ( the url of the page where the actually link is, pagerank of the site , and how many backlinks the site has,
and if its on hold or ok ( as in contacted but no confirmation yet, or ok link added)

then with a simple query , in the admin panel ,
    i show
    site 1
how many links today : x
    yesterday : x
    total :
average links per day : x

maybe something like this , works out for you , i have found that it works, also as in the end of the day, with a simple glance i can see and follow her work,
i can easely verify the links,

    just my 2 cents

    good luck

Ok, in some cases it's really better to hire someone local. But for example my best client just developed system which takes search results from google based on keywords he decide. Then comes my job to filter out sites (some are not relevant, some invalid urls, some do not have contacts, some in other language, PR0, and many other reasons) and contact them actually. I've got many one-way links this way and it helps me earn really decent ammount many and really saves him a lot of money if he will hiring someone and stress his head to track their work, checking spreadsheets, etc. It contains tracker which saves how many sites contacted today, how many total, how many for each project, etc.

That's what you may consider, just my thoughts.

Oh, luvkycool, haha, I just missed your post, sorry:) Yes, such system helps a lot and a "win-win" solution to link builder and site owner.
