Hi Everyone, I recently outsourced a project to a company in India that when completed had many bugs and problems. Two months after my partner and I went in to redesign and add a few new features, our programmer didn't want to touch it with a 10ft pole! Is there anyone out there in the forum that knows how to clean up a "smarty" template mess from an outsourced Indian Company? We are willing to hire! Please contact me if you can help. Really appreciate it. Mike Gauthier1931@yahoo.com
Mike, not sure why "your" programmer won't touch it, but he must not be an employee. I get the impression that the code is pretty crappy. Poor design/programming practices, etc.. Before you embark in getting it cleaned up, you should ask for code samples from any potential contractors. Have your programmer put together some guidelines that you can use as a signoff point before accepting any completed code. This way if the programmer just copied someone's work to use as a sample you can catch them before accepting the work. I would also recomment putting together testing scenarios that you can use to test the code when you get it back. I outsourced a project one time because I just didn't have the time to work on it. When I received it, yes it basically worked but after looking at the code it was a bunch of crap code that was just a headache to maintain/change and limited or no error handling. That was my lesson before I asked for code samples and established guidelines to use before accepting any code.
