    Hi

I have 3 outgoing sitewide links from my main site www.itransition.com - I wonder if they hurt my site and somehow affect Google SERPs or anything like this.....

I would like to get some opinions with explanations please, but just "yes" or "no"

    thanx :D

Generally, they will not hurt your site unless they are blacklisted or spammy sites..

According to latest rumours, better if these links are relevant to the content. But I don't know what kind of penalty can it cause if they will be not relevant.

Just monitor your SERPs, if they drop after including the links try removing them. If your site goes up again, you may just have your answer.

I haunt had any bad effects, but i only choose quality/authority sites. Also default links like vBulletin etc on such scripts.

No - if only 3. Yes if too many! Now here is a question where opinions differ from person to person. Some think Maximum 10 -- some think 20 and so on . So make you own judgement and enjoy.:D

yeah only 3 is not a problem. the problem is that Is the site related to your site theme/genre? it will give you cab effect if the link is not realted to your site.

i think there are two google criterias about the outgoing links . they are

    * if you are giving link to a spammy site, it will hurt your rank
    * if you have so many outgoing links on your pages, it will hurt your rank too

    :)

If you keep the number low, and they're relevant to your site, then it shouldn't be a problem. If you have tons of outgoing links it could be a problem, but the number you're talking about is fine I should think.

Agree, 3 links is not a problem.

Just make sure you are not linking to bad neighborhood sites, or that could influence your own site as well.

i personally wouldn't link outward sitewide, because it's unnatural, and if i'm correct unnatural links are undesirable.

    Hey Devin,

Same with me - I have same thoughts in my mind - that sitewides are no good for the sites positions and its being as well - but I have no proof to this yet...... :D

Not really, think of sites with sitewide links from scripts such as vBulletin, phpBB, phpLD, Mambo etc the list goes on.

DigitalPoint for example has an outbound link to vBulletin on hundreds of thousands of pages, but DP isn't harmed.

It's mainly if you link to "bad sites".

They are beneficial if they are related to your site in terms of keywords

you're right, of course, but it takes a lot more than one sitewide linking to give your site a 'bad' ranking. what i'm saying is that i don't necessarily want to collect any 'bad rankings', no matter how small they are. and like the next poster mentioned, it is good if the links are related to your site concept.
