Check your mail server/host ip has reverse dns/PTR record or not. You can check it from dnsstuff.com

I had this issue, reverse dns wasn't set up, and I added a SPF record also and it solved everything

check with spamhaus and other organizations to see if your server IP has been blacklisted first, in any event, i would contact any email provider that is blocking your SMTP IP.

you can always do a lookup for your ip over here - http://www.dnsbl.info

see if it's being blocked or not.

the issue is to use another smtp server, i try smtp.gmail.com so it change the "sent by" field to my server (blacklisted), then i have one of:

    - use another hosting ($)
    - use another smtp sever so with another server ip (send your emails to another server which relay them to the clean smtp server), need programming!
    - find an smtp server least restricted than gmail (most of them are certainlly blacklisted)

    Any other issue?

if you're just using your own ip, the one that was given to you by your isp, then just release and renew it.
however, if you're using the smtp of your isp then you can do nothing. you need to find a new smtp server.

as for hotmails, i think it started last year which only applies to the new accounts(those accounts that were created when they change the branding to "live"), wherein your email won't go to their inbox if your smtp server doesn't have a spf record.

    Check your mail logs.

If a mail host rejects mail it usually sends back an error code along with a short message. That message often contains the reasong why it was rejected and a URL that has more information about the reason and what you can do about it.

On the topic of Hotmail, I found when sending bulk mail to Hotmail that they seem to only accept mail at 1 per second or so whereas every other host we sent to allowed us to send around 13 - 14 per second. We had to separate all the Hotmail users out of the list and send them afterwards or they would slow everything down so much that the whole list would take 24 hours !

To avoid ending up on block lists or filtered into spam boxes we had a series of spam filters set up on a special mailbox and we always sent the email to that mailbox first. If Spamassassin or BogoFilter or any of the others categorised it as spam then we'd re-word the email until they didn't. Sometimes it was silly little things like too many exclamation marks or the content of the email being about mortgages. Once, the editors used m0rtgages instead, thinking that the spam filters wouldn't detect the different spelling but SpamAssassin quickly disabused them of that notion. :) That one word got the highest score we ever achieved !

Hi there, Im very new at this....can someone break it down exactly how to get a domain name on a safelist for hotmail. I have too many bouncebacks/rejects from my email sendout which is legitimate to hotmail addresses and my clients wonder why they can't receive emails.

    Thanks ;-)
