Outbound links per page

On the google information for webmasters page, there is a note that says:
Looking at my redesign, I have 149 links on my home page. This is due to a few things - 1) my navigation menu, 2) I have 15 major sections on my site and there is a little bit of linking and information to each of them - to the main section and then to the most recent article in each. 3) multiple links to a couple the most recent articles - main link in title, discussion link, "read more" link, 4) various rel= links - several rss feeds (rss 1.0, 2.0, atom), etc.

I can see a way to reasonably remove a few links, but frankly the site is getting big and 99% of the links are relavent and I feel pretty important - I think it's important to give users a preview of my various site areas and I'd hate to rotate them and miss out on an end user seeing something interesting. That and the whole idea of having a strong internal linking structure is an idea I've tried to hold on to pretty tightly in this redesign effort. I just don't know if I can remove 49 links and still maintain my existing presentation which I'm growing more and more happy with. Most of the pages do not have this many links, but being the home page I'm worried if this is going to have a negative affect on my SEO efforts.

What do you think. Is this a problem?

The page itself is 8K with about 37K in images, 27K if you don't count repeats. (topic icons, menu arrows).
D'oh! - It's a 30K page. Don't know what I was thinking. I was able to shave the images down to 20K (not counting repeats) though.

The reason Google say this is that sometimes they truncate pages with lots of links. Don't ask me why, I think it might just be a time out thing. The simple check is to look at your cached page and see if it is truncated, if it is then obviously you have problems. You will not get banned for having too many links on your page, it is not seen as spam, it is just a Google workability thing.

That said, no one can be certain that they o not remove the value of links or ignore the links from 100 up, we just do not know. But if it is an absolute neccessity to have that many links on your page, then that many you must have. Personally I think 150 links is un navicable and will hit people with overload, it would be good to see the page in action. Any chance of the url?

It'll be up on Thursday - working on a server that's not connected to a data center at the moment.

Only a few links are outbound, and my nav menu accounts for a significant number of the links. It's a little crowded, but still tastefully done IMO. I'll be posting a review request when it gets up.

I started talking about this in another thread and it reminded me of this one... Anyhow, if you want to see the design, go to http://www.bkweddings.com I'll be asking for a site review after the weekend as I have a few issues to clean up still, but the home page is completely done.
